craigandliana's Full Review: Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera
Ever since our daughter was born about nine months ago, my husband and I invariably find something "cute" to capture nearly every day.
So after our last digital camera broke, we searched around for a compact camera that took great pictures without much effort. As far as I can tell, the Canon PowerShot A530 really fits the bill.
Good points
The camera is nice and compact (so much so that we often forget where we left it, but not the "ultracompact" that can fit inside Altoids tins), but still feels good and solid when you're taking pictures.
The LCD display has great resolution and gives a pretty good idea of what area is being captured in a photo (my husband feels that using the viewfinder is better, but I haven't tried it).
This camera doesn't have as much shutter lag as our previous one, which is great.
So far, our pictures have turned out really well. Not sure that I'd classify them as "professional," but that's probably just a user-issue...
Not so good points
I sometimes feel a little constrained with a 4x zoom, but our last camera had 8x, so perhaps I'm just a bit spoiled.
The flash seems like it takes a while to recharge between pictures. Also, sometimes I like to take photos without a flash, but even if I purposely take the flash off, the camera often resets itself when I switch from "picture-taking" to "picture-viewing" and back again. But that may be because I often have the camera on "auto" setting.
Using 2 AA batteries is pretty convenient, however, I often feel that our batteries run out rather quickly. Perhaps this is just because we take a lot of pictures on a daily basis
