ogdenmom's Full Review: Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera
It was great to open this camera on Christmas morning and find a small memory card and batteries in the box. The camera was totally ready to use right away. The last time I bought a digital camera it was a horrible experience, and this has been just the opposite. The camera is not perfect, but it is close enough and I am very happy. There is a nice large view screen. There are several easy to use settings so I can get the shot I want, but not so many settings that it is confusing. The camera takes video, too, which is a lot of fun. Playback is smooth, though the sound is very poor. This camera uses SD memory cards, readily available and easy to use. The accompanying software is very easy to install, and most of the features are easy to use. I especially like the red eye corrector. Transfer of photos between the camera and computer takes just a push of a button.
There is too much lag time between shots, especially in dim light. This camera absolutely eats batteries, but I bought some rechargeable ones and solved the problem. Overall, I recommend this camera to anyone who needs something simple and easy to use.
