I have been using this camera for over a year now and absolutely love it!
As a very active photographer and an eBay seller, this camera gets used a lot. It goes horseback riding, kayaking and beaching. It has been dropped, banged around in saddle bags and splashed. When I am listing an estate sale, it can take 50-60 photos in a sitting and this little guy just never fails me. Picture quality is fantastic, macro feature is a gem and the zoom is great. It takes mini movies and all the features are easy to use. It does take some time to study the manual and learn how to use them all, but what fun stuff you can do with this A540!
Movie mode does suck up battery juice big time, but for regular photos the batteries last quite a long time. I keep rechargeable batteries in my case so I always have fresh ones just in case I need them.
The 6.0 pixels seem to be plenty for enlarging and printing my photos. I haven't had any problems with grainy prints at all.
The macro feature has come in handy many, many times with the eBay listings and also for my botanical shots.
The 4x optical zoom is great, although I often find myself wishing for more zoom. The digital zoom is like any other digital zoom...usually not worth using that feature as it does tend to get a bit on the grainy side.
I can adjust for any lighting issues, the flash has never failed me and the flash setting is easy to change in a heartbeat.
The camera program I use is the standard one that came with the camera and it pretty much does everything I need a photo editor to do.
I really like this camera...so much so that I bought the same camera (newer version) for my boyfriend for Christmas this past year.
I highly recommend this camera.
