Thank You Howard (Reply to this comment)
by biged915
My daughter age 14 has been hounding me that she wants a camera even if it was a disposable camera. I wanted to give her a digital, I knew I wanted a Canon because, well no explanation needed there. Now which one to get her, with Howards helpful review and several phone calls I finally tracked 3 of them down as they are now discontinued in most major retailers. Office Depot had 3 bundled packages left, it came with a Canon Pixima printer, Photo Paper, Ink Cartridges, and A Canon A 620 Camera all neatly packaged for $179.00! Quick, somebody help me up off of the floor and get me a glass of water. This will be my one of my daughters most memorable Christmas' ever, thanks to Howard for another great review.

I'm looking for a starter camera that is roughly 100 to 150 dollars. This was an extremely thorough review, and I'll probably go with the Canon! Cheers, Zachariah

of what I thought about this camera. I wanted a camera for family shots but also a really good macro function. It does just what I need and much more that I haven't figured out yet. Started shooting before looking at the manual and we were amazed by the quality of extreme close ups of flowers in the garden and the zoom (16x) photos at the Indians game. You can see them here

Price was $228 at Office Max 2 weeks ago.

The usual excellent take... (Reply to this comment)

Good Grief, Howard! We just finished a 2,200 mile drivearound and Marilyn shot up some 650 images with our A-75 Canon. I gave her a 512K CompactFlash Memory Card; which she failed to fill. The NIMh batteries gave out first. A wonderful camera that I now see is as obsolete as the Kodak Brownie.

Thanks for your kind comments about my review, I'm pleased it was helpful in your camera search.
I did shoot a very brief video segment (I'm not really a video fan) and I was impressed with the A620's video capability. You probably won't win any Oscars but you can certainly amaze your friends, family, and selected email recipients with your movie clips.
Thanks for reading
Howard

What an amazing review - thank you SO much! I'll be getting this camera soon!!! I'm not sure on all of the technical stuff just yet, but I know I'll get the hang of it easily. One quick question, however (and I apologize if you mentioned this & I missed it) - How does it perform when taking motion shots? Thanks! Nikki

The Canon A620's macro is 10 centimeters, that's less than 1/2 inch. I love this camera.

Re: Excellent review... and a question (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for your kind words about my review.
Like you I rarely use flash, so one of the first things I check during my initial assessment of any new digicam is to figure how to turn off the flash. The A620's flash can be turned off and the camera will remember your preference.

Excellent review... and a question (Reply to this comment)
by srdgoddess
I was wondering, can you recall if this camera has flash turned on automatically at power-on, whether it's turned off at power-on, or if it remembers the last flash mode you had it on?
I ask because I'm considering this camera for my next purchase, and I hardly ever use flash, so it drives me nuts when flash mode is "on" automatically at power-on. (I hope I'm making my question clear.)

I'm gong to seriously look to replace my digital camera and was trying to keep it around $300 to $350. This looks like a good choice.
I love the reviews, you certainly know how to cover the entire subject.

Paul,
Keep your head down over there and come back safe. Do your best to keep in touch. My favorite nephew is also on his way to the Sandbox.
Don't let the Iraq controversy cause you any heartburn, both sides are totally committed to getting you and your fellow warriors home safe.
We'll leave a light burning for you in the front window of the electronics category until you're back, safe, in this little corner of the World.

Just a quick note to let you know that I leave 9/30. If I get internet/email access, will try to keep in touch.
Keep posting these gems, so I'll have something to read when I get back.
Best,
Paul

of you yesterday when I heard on the news that Rita was going to be dumping some rain in your neck of the woods...Hope it wasn't severe or that the balloons weren't blown around too much in those winds...What a sight that must be though..
Wish I was in the market for a new camera, but when I am you know who I will bother first..LOL
Take care
