Cons: Camera shake, Flash is noticiable. No battery meter. Terrible TV Video display.
The Bottom Line: I would NOT recommend this camera. The camera shake and auto settings are terrible. Focus is also terrible. TV Video playback is awful. Ok, it's small - so what???
astravitz's Full Review: Canon PowerShot SD400 / IXUS 50 Digital Camera
I always wanted to own one of the Canon Digital Elph's, so I purchased the SD400 to replace my Sony P5. My Sony had consistently taken great pictures and even had a email copy mode to store a second low resolution picture for web posting or email. I wanted to love the SD400 so much, but I've found it to be a terrible camera.
The first problem I noticed was that it couldn't figure out in Automatic mode what the best exposure and settings should be. When I took indoor pictures the color was significantly off. I had to manually set the camera for interior tungsten lighting. I found this annoying, since my Sony P5 was able to easily get the color correct every time.
Next, I noticed my pictures were almost always out of focus. Apparently, unless you use a tripod, the camera is very susceptible to camera shake. So, expect almost all your pictures to come out slightly out of focus from camera shake. Next, the 9 point or so, auto focus (AF), is very annoying, I've tried to disable it so just the center locks onto the distance, but I'm yet to discover how this annoying "feature" can be turned off.
Also, I have to pop out the battery every time I want to charge it, this seems strange since many cameras allow you to charge them without having to pop out batteries all the time, certainly my old P5 allowed this.
Overall, I'm very disappointed by this camera. Also, I noticed the TV video was terrible from this camera. If you like to see your pictures on your TV or set up slide shows you will have tons of noise and extra static in the TV display.
