Pros: Huge 20X Zoom, Great movies, Great resolution (10 MP), good battery life, Large view window.
Cons: Lens cover, Manual Flash.
This is our second Canon Powershot IS camera. We had the S1 IS and loved it. Canon has a great upgrade program and we went to the SX10 IS - We were amazed at the improvements and additional features.
This camera has a HUGE 20X optical zoom. We love the zoom feature and use it for everything - It will zoom while shooting movies and does great to get up close when you are not.
The movie mode is one of the main reasons we got the camera as well. It has great clarity and we love the IS (image stabilizer) mode that allows you to be human and yet still get good, stable videos. The best part is that unlike other cameras, the video clips are not limited to 30 seconds or 1 minute. They can be as long as your memory card will hold. And, again, you can zoom while shooting a video, which is a lot of fun.
There are several different modes that allow you to adjust for your particular setting such as Beach, Indoor, Fireworks, Snow and several others.
The camera is bulky compared to the previous versions, but not too much so. The View window on the back is larger - 2.5 inches and has the swivel options so that others can see them selves while you are shooting them. Kids love it. At least ours do.
Only 2 things that I would consider complaints. One is the lens cover. There is nothing to attach it to and while you are using the camera, there is nowhere to put it. The other, and this is not really a complaint, is that the flash does not automatically come up when shooting in low light areas. The older model would have the flash pop up - but you could turn it off. On this camera, you have to raise the flash manually. Some may like it, but it took some getting use to.
The resolution is great - 10 mega pixels. We have been able to blow up several of our shots and make a few photo albums with this camera. Some people have remarked that the photos look professional. We tell others that the pics are only as good as the camera.
The battery life is good too. It uses 4 AA batteries. If you get this camera, get rechargeable batteries. The last for quite a while, especially considering all the camera can do.
Overall, this is one of the best HUGE ZOOM cameras you can get without the expensive and bulky extra attachments. We love this camera and would recommend it to anyone.
