I have never owned a great printer. I've always bought the cheap, bottom-of-the-line printer for $50. How glad I am that I pitched in the $200 for this one.
Speed
At 17 ppm for black and white, and 12 (I think) for color, the S630 competes with laser printers. It comes out incredibly fast.
Paper Feeding
There is one tray, which holds a LOT of paper, and so far I have not had a single jam. As opposed to low-quality printers, where you have to push the paper in because it just won't feed, it pulls the paper right through.
Print Quality
The quality is excellent. I compared it to my friend's laser printer, and they were exactly the same. There are no smudges or mistakes. The color printing is also great; I've printed pictures as well.
Ink Tanks
Canon uses its ingenius Think Tank system on the S630. There are separate tanks for each color (black, red, cyan, yellow), so replacing tanks is cheaper than on other printers. When one color runs out, you replace just that one, not an entire color cartridge.
Installation
I have Windows XP, and the printer came with a special drivers disc which was very easy to use. Installation was a breeze.
All in all, this printer is an excellent buy. You will not regret it.
If you are an architect using the DataCAD software with a HardLock key, do not use this printer. Though Canon does not say this, the HardLock key is completely incompatible with the S630
