| SKIP-K's Full Review: Canon S 630 InkJet Printer |
I have to admit, I really don't know a whole lot about printers so the reviews on this site helped me when it came time to get rid of my HP which was expensive to use and had seen better days. I read a lot and I went to Best Buy to see demos of the various printers. As I write this I realize their are a lot of new printers on the market and the prices keep coming down. What I would like to stress here is that the Canon S630 is a versatile, dependable, easy to use and maintain all purpose printer. It's goal is to do all things well. not any one thing spectacular.
It will connect easy right out of the box, software installation is simple and the printer plugs into a USB port. Canon, I feel, is extremely good when it comes to support. Their online store is also great for ordering paper and ink, they are helpful, reliable, and quick with your order.
I have been using this printer now for about a year and a half and I have had not one problem. The troubleshooting guide takes care of any little problems you may have, cleaning the print heads and aligning the printer is extremely easy. A test page is printed and any bugs can easily be corrected. I have found this a strong point with Canon as compared to my HP. Another feature to note is the ink tank system that is one of the most cost effective on the market when it comes to cost per page. Many printers are relatively cheap nowadays but they will cost you a fortune in ink. Canon has been able to offer consistently good picture ans text quality in a printer that has a reasonable price and replacing the ink is easy and inexpensive.
This particular model was the start of a complete line of Printers from Canon that are perfect for the home user, either as a text printer or printing photos. I have found that using Canon paper improves the quality to very respectable levels.
This is an update to my review: Since writing this review I have experienced a paper jam malfunction which has rendered this printer useless!! After four e-mails to technical support and having utilized Canon's online help center, I have found that I am unable to get this unit to accept anything other than a single envelope. With this printer not being quite two years old I have attempted to correct the problems by every means at my disposal. Being unable to get the machine to accept a sheet of paper, having found out that it would need to be sent back to Canon for repair, realizing that this would cost me at least $75.00, I have removed the printer and uninstalled the software. What was just a short time ago a product that I praised; I now own a Canon S630 Printer that does not work and which is to expensive to repair and more logical to just replace. I was warned that many printers live only a few years, having said that I still believe Canon to be a good company and am unhappy that my problems with this unit could not be resolved. I have purchased a new HP Deskjet 5550 and will review it when I have had it for a few months.
