The Canon S9000 Color Bubble Jet Printer has everything needed to produce excellent photo quality on photo paper. It will print photo quality from 4 x 6 inches all the way up to 13 x 19 inches, great for a 14 x 20 inch framing. You can print borderless prints at the 4 x 6 inch size and the 8.5 x 11 inch size.
This printer is pretty quiet compared to most printers and comes with software for both Window and Mac users. It is Windows XP ready and will run on all versions down through Windows 98, the Mac needs OS 8.6 or higher. This printer is made for a USB connection, there is no parallel hookup, retail price for this beauty is $499.
The Quality!
The Canon S9000 Color Bubble Jet Printer has a print head with 3,072 nozzles to give it great detail. The resolution it prints at is 2400 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch) in both black and color.
This printer has 6 different ink cartridges instead of the usual one black and a 3-color one. They are dye-based inks instead of the pigment type in the following colors Black, Photo Cyan, Cyan, Photo Magenta, Magenta and Yellow. Retail for each cartridge is $11.99.
This means you only have to replace the color that runs out not all colors at once.
Canon uses a light beam shinning through a prism to automatically monitor the amount of ink in each cartridge. When the cartridges are about 20% empty the printer will warn you that the ink is getting low. This is very helpful if you are printing one of the large 13 x 19 inch photos so you wont run out of a color in the middle of the printing.

Printing
This is my test of the printing speeds, not accurate by any means because every photo will print at different speeds depending on the colors needed. This is just to get an idea of some printing speeds for the Canon S9000.
Canon said it takes approximately 37 seconds to print a 4 x 6 inch color print. I printed a borderless one in about 57 seconds.
They rate an 8.5 x 11 inch print in 2 minutes, it took about two minutes and 17 seconds to print a borderless one.
They have no rating on the 13 x 19 inch prints, these print with about a ¼ inch border around it, this took 5 minutes and 36 seconds to print a beautiful photo.
Where to get the paper?
To find 13 x 19 inch paper is hard to do at most local stores, TechDepot.com has 10 sheets for $17.95 plus $7.99 shipping. I am sure there are other places to purchase that size of photo paper.
You can find 8.5 x 11 inch and 4 x 6 inch photo paper at most local store that sell printers.
What I Like
The quality of the photos is excellent with the 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution.
I do love the six separate ink cartridges, this way you only replace a color as it runs out and not all the colors at once.
Being able to print the large 13 x 19 inch photos is great!
Setting it up was easy and it is very easy to use.
What I Dislike
At around $12 for each ink cartridge times six cartridges can cost you about $72 to replace all of them at once. This is slightly higher than other color photo printers.
The cost of $499 is steep unless you want to print those large photos making it really a bargain.
Overall
I really like the quality and performance of this printer, the photos are beautiful. Considering that the photo paper costs you about $2 plus the ink, this makes printing a large 13 x 19 inch photo for less than $3, that is a bargain.
This printer can be used to print almost anything on any type and style of paper from different sizes of envelopes, transparencies, regular paper to banner paper.
The software that comes with it is easy to use and you can touch up those photos to your preference.
If you are not interested in the large format then check out Canons S900 printers for the same quality printing of 8.5 x 11 inch photos.
Check out the Epinion sponsors, one has the Canon S9000 for $416.
Here is another 13 x 19 inch printer worth checking out, the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Ink-jet Printer.
