jbhut's Full Review: Canton (CD360F) Center Speaker
Center & Subs - The Only Two Speakers That Matter – Canton Model: CD360F Brand: Canton Type: Center Speaker
Without a great center speaker and sub woofer it is like playing a piano with only half the keys and poorly tuned.
The Story:
I am nearing completion of the remodel on my home and I am starting to build my surround sound system. I acquired a decent Denon Receiver, attached a HD DVD player (I am still waiting to upgrade to blu-ray – the price is almost right). I have a canton subwoofer that I am testing and I will probably review shortly. I recently attached a Canton CD360F Brushed Aluminum Silver Center speaker that does more than add quality sound but great looks as well to my shabby system. I have been using Canton products for years now and swear by them for the quality of sound at the right price.
The design:
A sleek brushed alumnium silver frame dawns my cabinet with dimensions of 23.6'' x 4.9'' x 3.9''. It isn't a plastic look either, it is the real thing. Cool to the touch and a high quality finish. You can feel it in the weight of the unit, weighing just over 18 lbs. If you are not a fan of the metallic finished you have your choice of either a White or Black high gloss lacquer sheen. I give it a 8 out of 10 for design.
The Sound:
Truly amazing. As the title says, there are only two speakers that truly matter and that would be the subwoofer and the center speaker. The rears, fronts and sides are for ambient noises for the most part. Whereas most of the sound comes from the sub and the center. Therefore if you are going to scrimp of costs, do it on the fronts and rears but get a good sub and center. This being said, the Canton CD360F is an amazing center that can handle 87.5 dbl and has a power handling of between 110-170 watts.
The speaker has 2 midrange and 2 woofers at 4” a piece. With one centrally located tweeter. This combination adds clarity and crispness to the music of sound that is emitted. It has a great crossover frequency and response rate.
Other Useful Information:
One amazing feature of this Canton speaker is that it is magnetically sheilded to add to the life of the speaker and avoid crossover frequencies. Please note, it comes with a wall mount but the desktop mount is an optional extra accessory.
Please also note, this is intended for indoor use only and is designed for bookshelf use. If you have the option I highly recommend installing an in-wall speaker if it works with your setup.
In The End:
It is a great speaker, not cheap, but definately worth the price. The retail is $1000 a unit but you can pick up a unit for about $500 on Amazon or eBay. I highly recommend this speaker. Use a high grade speaker cord with gold banana plugs to protect your investment and optimize your experience. Remember to pair this with a great Canton subwoofer and enjoy your home theater surround sound – you will never want to go to the theaters again!
