Pros:Classic rpg, couldn't ask for more!
Cons:Slower gameplay and story may bore the casual gamer.
The Bottom Line: If you want to get your feet wet with an RPG, get Golden Sun, but if you love rpgs, get it already!!
If you already didn't know, Breath of Fire is part of a series of rpgs spanning over the Nintendo systems. Being a rpg fan, I picked up the GBA version.
Breath of Fire(or BoF) is a classic rpg, in which you travel around searching dungeons, leveling up, and buying new equipment at each new town, similar to early final fantasys. BoF also adds a little spark with transforming into dragons. Overall, not to inovative, but still addictive if you enjoy this sort of progression. There are a couple mini games too, that are quite fun at first, but get a boring pretty quickly. Battles are a little slow, and random encounters do occur(much like any rpg).
Graphicswise, the game is pretty solid for GBA. Spell and Dragon effects are nicely done. You can see gameplay videos at www.gamespot.com.
Story too, is a little slow and tedious. It is very linear, and I, personally felt it was trite and a tad boring.
I often people comparing BoF to Golden Sun. Although Golden Sun has a faster-pace and better graphics, BoF is more classicly done, which is it's greatest asset.
Despite my comments about being slow, BoF is a solid rpg, that can be addicting and enjoyable.
