kmalantic's Full Review: Jura-Capresso MT500 10-Cup Coffee Maker
This coffee maker is pretty, oh so pretty (bling factor! all it needs are some spinnies.. lol). It also makes hot, delicious coffee that keeps its temperature for hours. No, really, it does keep the coffee hot for hours... after a 10 hour day of work, the coffee is still steaming when poured out of the carafe.
Yeah, no kidding. Anyway, I'd like to say that I'm not a coffee snob, only wanting to have an excellent cup. So, I like to grind before I make the coffee and I make sure my coffee beans are high quality (Gorilla Coffee gooo!) to guarantee a good cup. The coffee that comes out of this magical system is smooth and delicious, although it does need to have a liberal amount of grind to make sure of that.
The system is easy to use and even has a water purifying filter (charcoal flavored goodness?), but the manual actually recommends that you DO NOT use it if you already use filtered water. Supposedly, and I quote... well, actually I WOULD quote it if I didn't lose it. *sigh*
Which brings me to my next point: RTFM. RTFM. RTFM.
Read the damn manual people. It recommends that YOU DO NOT preheat the carafe. It recommends that YOU DO NOT grind your beans finely. Matter of fact, this system works best with a semi-coarse grind.
Yeah, that's probably the source of the spilling and leaking: your grind is too fine. You have coffee grinds stuck in the filter 'cup' and probably in the gold filter. Utilize the internet and purchase new ones from Capresso.
You may have also read about how people have spilling issues with the carafe... once again, READ THE MANUAL. The way the carafe is built, it is not going to pour quickly. Good coffee is about patience. Utilize it! Matching the little circle up with the spout also helps.
Finally, it has a 3-5 cup selector. Let's get this straight: most coffee makers like this make good carafes of coffee. That being said, making less than a full carafe of coffee will not guarantee a good cup.
It doesn't do the 3-5 cup making very well, instead making it watery and very unfulfilling. Don't bother. You want a good cup, you have to use a lot of beans (or just use a single cup coffee filterer thingy).
By the way, buy this new off Ebay: I got it for $150 shipped.
