| pilarzmom's Full Review: Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash |
Usually we take a tropical vacation every year. Not this year though. This year we're moving and have sunk a lot of money into our existing home just to sell it.
One of those projects was fixing our leaky master bath shower. Since everyone was taking showers in the second bathroom, I decided to forego my more expensive body washes and try something cheaper that would appeal to all of my family members. I chose Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash. This large 18 ounce bottle only cost $6 and had an appealing fruity scent with a hint of coconut.
Product Details
Caress calls this product a silkening body wash. When I purchased I only noticed the words "body wash" and appealing peachy pink color. A quick sniff test revealed a very nice tropical scent that rivaled anything sold in fancier brick and mortar stores. It quickly went into the cart.
It wasn't until I first showered with it that I noticed that it has tiny little scrubbing particles, in this case, what Caress describes as exfoliating pomegranate seeds. Sure enough, I took another look at the label and there in smaller print it does indeed mention this. I also notice that the wonderful coconut scent comes from the inclusion of Tahitian Palm Milk in this body wash.
This might sound like a messy body wash. After all, who want seeds all over their shower to rinse out? However, the seeds are actually ground and feel like fine sand. The red specks that are suspended in the semi-opaque body wash appear to be micro beads, although there is no mention of them on the labeling. When scrubbing they actually do disintegrate, eventually.
My family's experience
While I got it for my whole family to use, I discovered right away that my boys hated it. They're too young to appreciate scrubby products. They also found the big bottle a bit too wieldy to handle. I thought with its easy-opening flip top lid and its contoured shaped bottle that it would be no problem for them to handle. But they always ended up pouring out way too much. The body wash isn't runny. It actually has a nice medium consistency. But perhaps the hole is a bit too big. I also think that even though a large bottle is a good value, its large size is a bit too big for convenient shower usage.
My husband and I actually like it quite a bit. It's nice to have a foaming product with exfoliating properties. The ground pomegranate seeds provide the right level of exfoliation, neither being too rough or not scrubby enough to do the job. The lather is nice and rich and super fragrant. It makes the bathroom smell delicious. And best of all, my skin feels nicely conditioned and lightly scented.
Speaking of the scent Caress has created an interesting blend. Pomegranate is not really what I consider a tropical fruit (do they even have them in Tahiti?), but it works really well with this blend containing Tahitian Palm Milk (think coconut scent). Neither overwhelms the other and actually are quite complementary, with the palm milk balancing the somewhat tangy scent of the pomegranate, and the pomegranate spicing up the palm milk to give it a little bit more appeal. I do notice that my skin retains a bit more of the palm milk scent.
Conclusion
I actually was a bit concerned that this product would be a bit drying as many drug store body washes are for me. But it has turned out to be a very good performer. Its scent is excellent and I'm very pleased that it is a body wash with true exfoliation properties. The packaging is not ideal, but overall Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash is a very good product and worthy of 4 stars.
