Pros: Really lovely scent
Cons: Not very moisturizing; those seeds!
The Bottom Line: Although I really like the scent of this body wash, I don't like the "sandy" feeling I get from scrubbing with seeds.

| befus's Full Review: Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash |
I've been trying for most of a year now to find the one body wash to satisfy my minimal requirements. So far, I've still not met with full success.
I'm not hard to please! All I ask is that the body wash smells pleasant, moisturizes well (or at least moderately well, not leaving my skin dry) and doesn't cost a lot. That last is important because our budget is tight, tight enough that I often feel guilty spending a few extra dollars on body wash when there's a perfectly good bar of soap sitting in my shower. But body washes are small luxuries that my skin really enjoys.
A few weeks ago I ran out of my old body wash Dove Deep Moisture. I liked the Dove enough that I probably should have just purchased a second bottle. But I was in an adventurous mood. I was also in a hurry at the drugstore. When I saw the pretty-colored Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash on sale for $3.99 for a 12 oz. bottle, I was intrigued. Especially when I flipped open the elegant, curved lid and smelled the scent. Wow!
It Really Does Smell Good
The scent of this body wash is definitely its best feature. The wash itself is a reddish-orange, slightly thicker than some body washes. When you squeeze a bit of it onto your hand, you can already begin to smell a natural, juicy, tropical fruit kind of smell. It's hard to identify any one fruit in the scent, but the overall effect of the scent is refreshing.
When you lather the body wash on your hands or on a pouf, that's when you really notice the pleasant scent. It's like there's a little extra burst of fragrance as you lather. It's not too strong (in fact, doesn't seem to linger long on skin at all) but the scent combined with the warm water of the shower feels pretty invigorating.
A Bit Like Bathing With Sand
So what makes me give this body wash only two stars? Well, first off is the pesky matter of the seeds included in the wash. Yes, I did say seeds. Teeny tiny bright red pomegranate seeds are mixed throughout the body wash.
I should have know this from reading the bottle. It says it includes seeds, but it says it in very small writing on a bottle full of darkish red-orange wash, and frankly, I either didn't notice or the information just didn't register. The first time I squeezed some out onto my palm, I noticed the seeds but they were so small I didn't think it would matter much. In fact, I hoped they would help to exfoliate my skin.
Yikes! Admittedly I have somewhat sensitive skin. But I was not expecting the sensation I got when I first lathered up and down my arms with this body wash. The little seeds almost give the lathered wash the consistency of sand. I felt like I was rubbing little gritty particles of sand across my skin, and that is not a pleasant feeling. While I can't say the seeds actually hurt, that gritty sensation was not relaxing at all, especially on more sensitive areas. I kept feeling like I needed to rinse and then rinse some more in order to get every bit of the stuff off me, the way you feel when you shower at the beach.
Of course, the little seeds do wash off. They fall to the floor of your shower where some of them stick on the tile or in the hair drainer or on the bath mat, necessitating more rinsing of your actual shower. (I almost titled this review "Please Lose the Seeds...But Not in My Bathtub!")
My other complaint with the body wash is that it doesn't seem moisturizing. I originally thought to give this product three stars even though I didn't like the seeds. But I've been struggling more with dry skin since starting to use it. Though I doubt the body wash is fully to blame, it's not a plus that my skin seems more dry than it did when I first started using it. Given that they advertise the effects of the body wash as "silkening" and claim palm milk as an ingredient, it's especially disappointing. The dry, itchy skin on my legs may be the result of a combination of factors, but at any rate, this supposedly moisturizing body wash is not helping to improve it.
If you don't mind the sensation of seeds, and if you're not looking for a lot of moisture, you might enjoy this body wash, especially if you like fruity, tropical scents. I'm not sure how they get it to smell so good. It would be a pity if the seeds had something do with it. If they could explore using an extract from the pomegranate instead of the actual seeds, I might give another bottle of this a try. For now, however, this is going to be both my first and last bottle of Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash.
