| Freak369's Full Review: Carmex Lip Balm |
Having chapped or cracked lips is never a pleasant experience, couple that with an iced tea addiction that includes fresh slices of lemon and you have a potentially dangerous situation. Ive been using Carmex for several years now and it is the only product that I will use when I have any type of lip ailment. It wasnt until I became addicted to Taco Bells Nachos Belle Grande that I realized how well Carmex worked. Normally Im not a fan of anything spicy but the Nachos Belle Grande is a weakness, especially when its zesty and leaves your mouth tingling. A few months ago I ordered this, loaded up a chip, tossed it in my mouth and almost went through the roof when I licked my lips that zesty blend of spices felt like it was ripping the layers of skin right off my lips and trust me on this it isnt something that is in the least bit enjoyable. After rummaging through my knapsack I saw salvation sandwiched between a notebook and pack of gum the mustard yellow tube of Carmex.
Carmex
I distinctly recall searching the site to see if this was listed and had no luck. Whoever added it or requested it Id like to personally thank you even if you go unnamed in this review. Ive tried almost every chapped lip product on the market and none of them work like Carmex. The packaging of the product isnt fancy and youll never see a television commercial for it [as least I havent] so its word of mouth advertising from satisfied customers thats put Carmex on the map.
Carmex comes in several different formats with the most popular being the small jar now in the larger half ounce size and the roll on EZ-ON applicator. If these two arent convenient for you, be sue to check out the website at www.carma-labs.com to see the newer products that they have introduced. I was a faithful user of the jar format for several years but have found that the roll on tube applicator is a lot easier to carry in my knapsack. One real important word of warning about using the roll on version is that you shouldnt share it with anyone, not ever you kids or spouse. These are inexpensive for spring the extra $1.29 and pick up a tube for everyone. I dont think that this same warning needs to be applied to the jar version, but honestly, you can never have too many of these around the house.
Does It Really Work?
Dont take my word for it, check out the reviews that have been pouring into this section over the past few days and youll read about how this has helped a lot of people with lip troubles under a variety of situations and circumstances. Living so close to the beach there are times that I get windburn on my face and my lips seem to take the brunt of the abuse. Carmex helps to relieve some of the pain, start the healing process and keep the cracking to a minimum. Cold sores are never fun so when I start to see or feel on brewing this is the first thing that I reach for. Again, if you are going to use the roll on tube please make sure that you dont share it with anyone regardless of how well you know them since you never know what type of bacteria or germs they may be carrying that could be passed on to you and your open cuts or sores. Does that get the point across to you?
The tube is a little harder to keep clean than the jar but with if you wipe down the lid after you use it, you shouldnt have any trouble with it. Some people may complain about the smell or scent of it but it is a lot better than most products on the market and after a few uses you do get used to it. To apply it with the roll on version, just unscrew the lid, apply to it clean dry lips and make sure that it covers the area completely. If you are going to be drinking anything like soda or tea, try using a straw to avoid any messy lip prints that might occur. Using it from the jar is simple, just stick you finger in, rub it on your lips and wipe it off on a kleenex or paper towel. Resist the urge to rub it on your clothing because it could be messy or stain.
The ingredients are simple: menthol, camphor, salicylic acid, phenol, lanolin, cocoa butter, mineral oil and wax. Hard to believe that these basic ingredients can help soothe chapped, dry, sore or wind burned lips but it works every single time without fail. I picked up my very first container at a 24 hour truck stop when we were traveling and just moved to the United States. My lips felt like they were raw from the cold weather and my biting them from stress didnt help matters. The clerk suggested Carmex when I went to check out instead of another product and said that it was the only thing she ever used. I must admit, when I saw the packaging it wasnt too impressive and the initial smell was a bit strong but after 15 30 seconds my lips started to feel better. Years later it is the only thing that Ill use on my lips.
If you are a contact lens wearer, please make sure that you wash your hands well after you use this to avoid a most unpleasant experience. I made the mistake of trying to get an eyelash out of the corner of my eye after I applied some Carmex to my lips and lets just say it was a real eye-opening event [pun fully intended]. Using this on children is a case-by-case situation but Id recommend something with a less powerful scent to it, perhaps a product designed just for children that can be picked up at any pharmacy or drug store.
The Bottom Line
Like I said, if you dont believe me about how well this works, check out what the other reviewers have to say. If you have tried other products for cold sores, chapped lips, cracked lips, sun burn or wind burn but never got any real relief from them, you owe it to yourself and your lips to check out Carmex. If you drop $2.00 on a coffee each morning on your way to work Im sure you can scrape up $1.29 in loose change for a tube or jar of this product. In fact, Id be willing to bet that you have that much in between the cushions of your couch, at the bottom of your purse or in the change holder in your vehicle. If I could give a money back guarantee on Carmex, I certainly would thats how much faith I place in this product.
