| maceyr's Full Review: Carnation Good Start |
I pretty much started feeding my baby Carnation Good Start as soon as I came home from the hospital. With the stress of being a first time mother and breastfeeding, it was quite a struggle to convince a newborn baby to breastfeed. I basically used Good Start to supplement the feedings.
I got a free can of powdered Good Start along with coupons from Carnation and decided to give it a try. Carnation sent quarterly magazines for parents with coupons towards Good Start and Cheerios and they also had a toll-free number for parents with questions.
Good Start is supposed to be easily digested for babies as the milk is broken down into smaller, digestible proteins. As my baby didn't have much problem digesting the formula, I guess it was good for him. We have tried other formulas such as Similac, Enfalac and SMA because we received free samples from them but found that our baby was less temperamental when drinking Good Start. Although every baby is different and may prefer certain brands over others, I would strongly recommend against SMA as this formula is quite hard to dissolve in powder and I believe causes constipation in babies. My son has few bowel movements and when drinking the other formulas, it became fewer. Thus, we continue with Good Start.
Ever since my son was 3 months old, we switched from powder to concentrate as the mixed formula would contain less air bubbles which causes less pain in babies.
My son is still drinking Carnation's formula but he's now drinking Follow up. Compared to other brands, Carnation (now Nestle)'s formula are cheaper. We have not had any problems with the formula and would recommend it to any parents of newborns. If the baby likes it and it's cheaper, why not? You may as well use the savings to buy other baby products since babies aren't cheap. As with any product recommendation, each baby is different and the recommendation should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm recommending this because my baby likes it. And, of course, breastfeeding is always better.
