Pros: Realistic yet terrifying. Exciting, beautifully written, funny at times.... King at his best!
Cons: Quite sad - I almost cried!
The Bottom Line: The best horror/thriller/suspense ever. This is undoubtedly Stephen King's best work. Very realistic and a non-stop adventure. Characters, writing style, plot - all superb.
Carrie White has a gift. An extraordinary but dangerous gift - telekenesis. The rest of her quiet New England township think she's pathetic, but they'll get theirs!
This is the best book by Stephen King I've ever read. Wait, scratch that - the best book ever! I've read it twice and I NEVER read books twice.
The characters are so real and you have to really feel for poor old Carrie. Even after she'd caused so much harm and damage I felt love for her. But I can identify with all the characters who are 3-dimensional and very well portrayed, as is Mr. King's style.
The action isn't too slow, though it does take a while to get to the climax (as always). When you do reach the climax, though, it's a non-stop thrill. Real horror, real action, real danger. I couldn't stop reading....
The movie, although very good (Sissy Spacek as Carrie is fantastic and was nominated for an Oscar), doesn't do the book justice. The style of writing is superb with well-written flash-backs and articles taken from newspapers and journals, etc., which add to the sense of reality.
