Designed to help reinforce vocabulary building; Dellosa Learning To Read! First Words from Carson Dellosa is a very good set of 42 puzzle pieces and activity directions. The words c v c, the pieces when assembled, form fourteen words and corresponding pictures are perfect for use in learning stations.
Dellosa Learning To Read! First Words from Carson Dellosa is a well made set of flash card shaped, puzzle pieces which fit together to form the picture of known to children items ie fox, bus, dog, cat and the like. Each puzzle piece has both a portion of the picture as well as one of the letters found in the word itself.
Children can use the puzzle pieces and self check, neither the word will be spelled correctly, nor will the picture form the picture unless the pieces are put together in proper order.
Made of heavy stock, well made puzzle pieces hold up well to ongoing use in Osage County First Grade. Each full color picture depicts a known entity, letters are lower case, easily recognize and dark against the back to aide young users.
The box indicates several games can be played with the puzzle pieces, these are included in the activity guide.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION for this product include: Carson Dellosa Publishing Learning to Read! First Words are 14 x 3 piece puzzles. Ages 3 and up, Activity guide for parents is included.
As a follow up activity to phonics work Dellosa Learning To Read! First Words from Carson Dellosa are excellent. During instruction Osage County First Grade work hard on initial consonants, ending consonants and vowels. Then each group is given several puzzle pieces with directions that using three pieces to each puzzle the group will work together to build each object and be ready to tell the word.
I model first how to use the puzzle pieces, then students and I spend a period or two using the pieces together, once I am sure the kids understand how to use the pieces then we move to the small group activity.
The puzzle pieces are moved to work station use for pairs of students to use together during their work station time and finally a set of 3 puzzle pieces are given to each student now and then with instruction to take to table, get journal, put puzzle together, draw picture of the object in journal, copy the word and write at least three sentences about that particular animal or other item.
Osage County First Grade gets lots of use from fourteen individual puzzles. Happy to recommend.
