| CraigEgg's Full Review: Cascade Air Lacrosse Helmet CLHA |
I started playing the game of lacrosse about 8 years ago. At the time the most popular helmet was made by sport helmet. Creative name huh, but it was a good helmet at the time. Now that I think about it, it was one of the worst helmets I had ever worn. Now that I wear a Cascade helmet, my head is much more protected, and much more comfortable. This is a new innovation that no lacrosse players should pass up. If you are still living in the stone age, you might still have the sport helmet, or a Bacharach helmet, but now it is time for you to change! In my review I will go through what is good about the Cascade, and what is bad about all of the other competing brands. Hopefully you will find this informative, and also hopefully you will make the correct choice in investing in a Cascade helmet, if you play lacrosse.
SPORT HELMET-
The helmet in lacrosse is the most important piece of equipment in the game. In a game you are bound to be hit in the head at least once or twice. If you did not have a helmet on you would suffer bad lacerations to your head. The sport helmet does one job succesfully, that is protects your head. That is the positive thing about the Sport Helmet. Now for the negative characteristics. The Sport Helmet is very hard uncomfotable. If you are a owner now, you may not think anything of it, but when you put a Cascade on and play with it for the first time you realize how comfortable it is and what you have been missing. With the Sport Helmet, it is big and luggy. With the Cascade, it is very small, and snug to your head. This is good because when you get hit in the head, the helmet won’t rattle and hurt your head more.
BACARACH-
This helmet is very similar to the Sport Helmet. It was good about 7-8 years ago, but now it is very rarely used. It is very uncomfortable compared to the cascade, but it is very affordable. If you are looking for strickly protection, and not comfort, I would tell you to go for the Bacarach. You can find this helmet in many different magazines. Like I said before, this helmet is almost identical to the Sport Helmet. It may be a little cheaper, that’s all.
CASCADE AIR-
I was first introduced to this helmet about 5 years ago. From the first day I put it on I fell in love with it. It offers so much comfort and it enables you to play very well. The comfort level is 5 out of 5, and the protection level is the same. Its snug aero dynamic shape offers a lot of swift movement and almost feels like you are increasing your speed. Also, your vision is a lot better. I am not talking about your vision straight ahead, but more of the peripheral vision. A good price for the Cascade Air is about 130$. That is about the lowest you can buy them for on the market right now. I definitely do recommend the Cascade Air over most other helmets.
CASCADE II (C2)-
I believe this to be the best helmet on the market right now. It doesn’t vary from the Cascade Air too much, but it has an even better feeling on your head when you wear it. The C2 has the same shape helmet, just the face mask is elongated for more protection. Right now this is my favorite helmet on the market. Once you use this helmet once, you will never want to go back to your original helmet, the feel is so nice!
CASCADE PRO-
This helmet is used by many of the top Div. 1 teams. It is also the official helmet of the MLL (Major League Lacrosse). This helmet I have never tried out before. It is a neat looking helmet with a visor on it which is a different shade of color then the rest of the helmet. I am guessing that it is probably just as good if not better then the C2.
As you can see, there are a variety of helmets that you can choose from. My personal favorites are the Cascade Air, and the C2. I recommend these because of there comfort, and there level of protection. Lacrosse is a dangerous sport, so make sure you make the right choice and get the right protection. A few extra bucks could be the difference between life and death. Think about it.
Well I hope you enjoyed my review. If you agree disagree, or just feel like letting me know how I did on this review, please leave a comment! Thanks!
