Case Hunting Knife with Leather Handle
This Case hunting knife is one of the standard issue hunting knives in the deer woods from the time I was a boy and before. These knives are used by the thousands by hunters across North America and have been made by makers such as Case, Marble, Ka-Bar, Schrade, Buck, and other companies. The knives are so durable and long lasting that many have been handed down through the generations and are still being used today.
This hunting knife is a product of Case, one of the famous American knife makers. Case is primarily recognized as one of the makers of premium quality bone-handled jackknives, which are prized by whittlers and outdoor people and even have collectors who try to get one of every variety. I have several Case jackknives myself - an accumulation more than a collection - and they are very fine jackknives and serve all my purposes well, which mostly consist of opening mail, cutting twine, and cleaning my fingernails but I do use them for other work as necessary.
The main thing to remember about Case knives is they are made of natural materials, by hand, in the United States.
The knife blade is made of premium quality surgical stainless steel that is shaped with a single edge ending in a clip point as shown in the picture. The blade is mirror polished to make a great appearance and also leave no place for dirt to accumulate should you actually use the knife - some people don't, but these are great knives for using.
The blade passes completely through the handle and the tang is riveted to an aluminum end cap that matches the aluminum finger guard near the blade. Between the two aluminum ends, the handle consists of a sandwich of polished leather washers, which has been a traditional knife handle material for as long as I know - and probably centuries. The handle is also decorated with colored spacers of red, black, and white that makes it a very fine looking utensil. Leather as handle material gives a firm non slip grip; wears well, and is at home in outdoor environments, shrugging off wet and cold conditions within reason and returning to a reasonable appearance when it is dry. The working part of the blade is 4 ¾ inches long and the overall length of the knife is 8 ½ inches.
The 8 ½ inch overall size makes the knife large enough for big jobs but not so large that it cannot be carried on your belt in the included leather sheath. All manufacturing operations are performed by hand so the knife is first class both in manufacture and appearance.
The knife weighs 5 1/2 ounces so in addition to being large enough it is also lightweight and includes a nice protective leather sheath with snap closure to hold the knife in place.
The price of this knife is quite reasonable for the quality and may be had for $50 or $60, which as knives go is quite affordable. If you ever wanted a leather handled hunting knife that can accompany you to the field, this is your knife. This leather handled Case knife also makes a great gift for that special someone.
Case knives have a limited lifetime warranty that states that Case knives are free of defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the owner. This requires mailing the knife to Case in Bradford, PA with an explanation of the problem and Case may repair or replace the knife at their option. I have never used this warranty but thought I'd mention it.
