| Freak369's Full Review: Case Logic Neoprene Cd Player Case |
With the weather finally breaking in Southern California, I am starting to do morning runs again. The beach is the perfect place to go for a morning jog or run since most of the people who visit [tourists] are still stuffing their faces with free continental breakfasts at the local hotels. Being a true music junkie, I carry my CD player with me almost everywhere but when I am running I like to be hands free. Until I came across this waist pack I was using a larger pack that made by CD player bump around and even though it has the anti-skip feature, I would skill get skips when I hit the fastest part of my run. I was looking for something that would keep the CD player stable but was also comfortable to wear and didnt look terribly hideous.
Case Logic Neoprene CD Player Case [NDM-1]
The basic premise of this CD carrier is to be hands free so dont expect it to be able to tote around everything that you normally carry in your backpack or purse. There is enough room in the pouch for the CD player and possibly a few CD cases but not the plastic jewel ones. Nope, youll have to pick up slim line cases that are 1/3rd the width or standard cases. Of course, this depends on the size of your CD player, older ones that are thicker might not even fit into the pouch so make sure you know the dimensions of your unit before you purchase this. The center of the pack expands to about one and a half inches so if you have a CD player thats thicker than that, look for another model. The height is about five inches and the width close to six. For me, this was the perfect fit for my Philips CD player but not all CD players are the same so look before you leap and measure before you purchase.
The side flaps make this look a lot bigger than it really is. These are added to provide a little extra stability when you are moving around and helps to keep the pack stable. This is a great feature if you are doing aerobics or running about is also helpful when walking since this reduces the amount of bounce the unit has to deal with. If you like to store your headphones with your CD player youll have to purchase something that either folds up or has a compact design like the Sony Ear Buds so they can easily be tucked inside the pouch when not in use. The large Velcro closure tab allows you to cheat a little if you have a larger sized CD player, it doesnt have to be placed exactly square so you can have a little bit of freedom with that feature. I really like the oversized clip that connects the straps. Several of the waist packs I own have these and I love them. They click into place and stay that way, a great feature if you are running or exercising and are a little fearful of someone trying to snag your belongings. If anything were to give it would be the straps and they are triple stitched so if someone tries to grab this off you, they will be in for a real surprise.
The straps are adjustable so this will fit almost everyone. Expander sections are sold at computer stores [look in the laptop accessory section] if you need a few more inches or want to replace the clips. The straps measure twenty inches on one side, eighteen inches on the other and they can be adjusted while you are wearing the pack. I dont suggest this version for kids since theyll have too much slack hanging down and that is just an open invitation for the excess material to get caught on something. If you choose to trim the excess material off, take it to a seamstress or upholstery store and ask them to stitch the edges with an industrial string to prevent fraying.
Price
I found this at my local Best Buy store for $19.99 but passed it up the first time I saw it. After shopping around I found it for $14.99 at Tower Records which was a little surprising since Tower is usually more expensive than ever other store in the area. Is it worth it? To me it is because it allows me to do a variety of exercises without having to hold on to my CD player and the side flaps add a little extra stability when I am jogging or on the treadmill. You would be hard pressed to find a comparable pack with the features I mentioned for less than $15.00 but $20.00 was pushing it. If there were an extra pocket or small zipper section for a few dollars or identification then I could see spending the extra five bucks but for this version of the pack, fifteen is adequate. If you dont have a Tower or Best Buy in your area, these are also sold at Target, Suncoast and Borders but Ive yet to see this specific model there others yes but never this exact one.
Durability
So far this has been a real gem and has held up nicely even with the amount of abuse I have tossed at it. I can toss it in the washer [I prefer to put it inside a pillow case to reduce the amount of pilling] and then in the dryer for a few minutes then air dry it the rest of the way and it looks as good as the day I got it. The reflective flap has lost a little bit of its brilliance after five or six washes but since I only run on a closed course or on the beach, this isnt really an issue. The buckle / snap assembly is large and easy to get open even when worn backwards and the adjustable straps are showing no signs of wear or fraying. All in all this is one sturdy pack that will hold up to a lot of use.
The Bottom Line
As a whole I have to give this high marks across the board for comfort, quality, design and durability. If you are going to look for a CD carrier like this Id advice you to shop around to find something that fits both you and your CD player. For the price this was a great investment, I use this on an almost daily basis and can honestly say that this is one of the best hands free CD carriers Ive owned. If you are a walker, exercise or just like to go for a stroll but hate having to carry your CD player, check out this pack and take your music with you!
As always, thanks for the visit
