wvhokie55's Full Review: Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z70 Digital Camera
Introduction
I purchased this camera before going on a trip last September. I had previously owned an Olympus, which took great outdoor pictures, but weighed a ton. I was looking for something much smaller and lighter that could take great pictures both in and out of doors. The Exilim 270 does just that.
Appearance and Design
The camera is very nicely styled - it looks very "trendy" you might say. I've gotten lots of compliments on this camera. It is small enough to fit in your pocket (an important feature for me) without feeling weighted down. The buttons are pretty easy to access, though I think it could be easy to drop the thing if you weren't careful.
The camera seems pretty rugged, too. I carried it in my side pocket all day for almost a week on my vacation and it never complained. My vacation involved a lot of walking and being in cramped spaces, so this was nice.
Features
The camera offers a wide variety of pre-set picture types, like eBay, portrait, nature, nighttime...etc. I've used a couple of them and they seem to work really well. This is basically a point-and-shoot camera, so don't expect it to be extremely configurable. The optical zoom works great, as does the digital zoom with some graininess. I took some excellent pictures of a sunset along the Mediterranean with the digital zoom that absolutely blow people away when they see them.
The camera also takes great video, though I haven't used this feature much.
You can retrieve your pictures by using either a USB cable or an SD card reader. I prefer the second option. The USB port cover on this camera is very flimsy and I imagine it would break off after a couple uses. That is probably the most glaring design flaw with this camera.
Battery
The camera uses a rechargeable battery. It seems to have excellent battery life from what I can tell. You would have to take a couple hundred pictures before it would need recharging, and even that doesn't take very long - maybe three hours at most.
Conclusion
This is a great little camera. I paid only $179 for it from Amazon and it continues to impress me. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to take crisp, bright pictures without having to worry about changing lots of settings.
