For me, cruising is the ultimate relaxation, but my wife is a busy body and did not enjoy the experience as much as I do which led to me not enjoying it as much. However, I'll do my best to relay my experience to you.
Purchasing the tickets: After much research I decided that my wife and I would cruise for 7 days in the Caribbean back in April 2006. I went through Expedia and even got a free ipod for my troubles. No problems there.
Arriving: Pick up at the airport was seemless. The person dressed in white holding a binder with "Celebrity" on the cover. No problems there. We got to the little holding area just before boarding the ship and the people were unbelieveably rude barking orders and ignoring questions. There were people waiting for over an hour....we waited about 30 minutes. Easily the worst part of the trip.
Boarding: Greeted with Champagne and walked up to our stateroom. We had various snacks and welcome stuff in our room and we went straight to the bar for a quick drink. Luggage arrived in our rooms with no problems at all.
The Ship: Very nice and in good condition. We took advantage of every single eating opportunity including the special dinner that cost extra. It was a 5 course meal and was one of the more memorable parts of the trip. The cheese course was to die for..my wife loved it to death which made me smile. The spa was great, but be ready to spend a pretty penny. The upselling is preposterous!! The casino is small, but functional. The shows were okay, but nothing I would actually pay money to see. That is the norm for cruise ships. Dressed up for one night and that was fun for my wife. Free room service...had the NY Strip like 3 times at 2am. Nice.
Land: The Ports of Call were very disappointing. Puerto Rico was run down. Along with the other 2 ports that I cannot recall. Your usual shopping and beaches. Nothing exciting.
Disembarking: As with any ship they try hard to be organized, but sitting in various parts of the ship waiting to get off just ain't fun at all! The Infinity handled it well and we were off the ship in a decent time and found our baggage with no problems.
Food: It was good overall. The formal dinners were my favorite as I am a big eater. Don't be afraid to ask for seconds if you especially like something. Double Filet and double lobster suited me just fine. They serve you with a smile because they know they're going to get paid in the end. Dining was a fun experience for me. Breakfast was okay, but the waffle line was horrendous.
Overall, I expected more from Celebrity after all I had heard about them. I had been on Royal Carribean and NCL before and remember better experiences on both. However, that may have to do with the fact that cruising is not my wife's cup of tea.
