I am an avid tea drinker. I will try most teas if they are available in my area, and also I make special trips just for my tea. I also purchase it online. I am crazy about tea.
Description
I saw this cute little box of tea in my local Walmart. It has a family of bears in their pajamas sitting around the fire getting ready to drink tea.
Sleepytime runs about three dollars for a package. Each package contains 20 tea bags. They are not individually wrapped and do not have strings with tags, but are in tea bags and not loose. They come in a cardboard box and enclosed in a refoldable bag or pouch.
Sleepytime tea is put out by Celestial Seasonings. I have had some of their other teas and really liked them so I thought I would try the "Sleepytime" Flavors.
There are no calories, fat, sodium, carbs, sugars, or proteins. Each serving makes 8 fl oz, and there are 20 servings per container.
My Experience
This tea brews up very a very light golden color. The aroma isn't a strong spearmint flavor like I had anticipated. It was actually very light, with a hint of spearmint. The Chamomile compliments the spearmint nicely. I could barely taste a hint of lemon grass shining through. I definitely taste the orange blossoms. As far as the other ingredients, I am not as familiar with their taste to be able to pick the flavors out. I love herbal teas, and this was a very light, and calming tea just as promised on the side of the package.
This tea is Caffeine free, and ment to drink at nightime to calm you. I like to drink it both in the evenings and in the mornings. It is light on my tummy and very soothing. I like to fix this for my children when they have colds and their tummies are upset. They seem to hold this tea down well. I like this tea steeped for a few minutes over hot water out of my senseo.
I love to add a bit of lemon and honey as well. When you add the honey it really makes the herbal tea more pronounced. This tea does not have a nutty flavor, so I don't like adding milk to it. I tend to add milk to my black teas, or teas that are stronger in flavor. This tea is great alone as well without sugar.
I normally purchase my tea bags wrapped in individual packages because I normally purchase in bulk. I was worried that the pouch verses the wrapped tea bags would make a difference in taste and freshness. As long as you refold the pouch back up and store in a cupboard, it remains fresh for quite a while.
I also wanted to say, that I think this would be a nice item to place in a gift basket, it comes in very pretty packaging and looks as inviting as it tastes.
Overall?
This is a very light and flavorful herbal tea. If you are a tea drinker I highly suggest it. Although it contains spearmint, it does not overpower the rest of the herbs. Each herb has its own chance to be heard. I highly recommend this tea.
