Century Student Shin Guards - Basic Style
Written: May 31, 2008 (Updated May 31, 2008)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Fair price, provides some protection, comes in several colors & sizes.
Cons:This shin guard provides little protection, there are much better shin guards for sparring.
The Bottom Line: It's an okay product for the New martial artist learning to spar. If you decide sparring's not for you, you're not out much money otherwise spent on gear.
Century Student {Basic} Shin Guards
The Century Student Shin Guards are generally what the martial artist starts out using when first learning to spar. After a few dents in their shin bones they'll usually opt for some better shin protection, or at least I did. Even with the very best shin guards you'll still end up clashing shins at some weird angle and lumping up your shin bone (Tibia). For the person who is in martial arts to learn forms and the Art side, or just chooses not to spar often, the Century Student {Basic} Shin Guards are sufficient. However if you like to spar and do it often I would recommend a better shin guard. As the name implies, this guard is for the beginner and provides minimal protection.
★ Features

Sizes: Youth, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large and Adult Extra Large
Conclusion
Century Student {Basic} Shin Guards are as basic a shin guard as you will find. The newer martial arts shin pads provide much more protection. The most popular shin guards for the martial artist is the Macho Warrior shin guards or the Century P2 shin guards. However basic the Century Student {Basic} Shin Guards are they do work fine and they worked for years for martial artists before the new better padded pads came out. These pads are secured with wide elastic straps and they stay in place very well. The straps are secured with Velcro. They may shift around a bit when you are sparring but they wont fall off. They come in several colors and sizes as well (listed above). This gear is cleaned with hot soapy water. Just wipe it down and dry it off and youre ready to go again. Lastly if you buy a set (head gear, sparring gloves, foot gear & shin guards) you tend to get a better deal than you would buying each part of the sparring gear separately. Century Student {Basic} Shin Guards would be a decent shin guard for someone just starting out in martial arts.
