| kld718's Full Review: Cepacol Sore Throat Maximum Relief Cherry |
Lucky me works in the hospital industry, thus I am constantly coming into contact with sick patients. So it is only natural that I contract a lot of colds throughout the year. Last year, I found myself with the first case of laryngitis that I have ever had. This was also accompanied by a sore throat so severe that I almost couldnt swallow.
This week, the employees in my hospital were the lucky recipients of the Smallpox vaccination. Not only did was my arm sore and weak afterwards, but I found myself with a lot of other side effects. Along with the tiredness and headache...came the sore throat, coughing, and laryngitis.
So I headed into my bathroom to seek out my bottle of Cepacol. So far, my laryngitis has not gone away, but at least my throat has been soothed temporarily. I am able to get through my day at work without anything more than a minor scratch in my throat until I can get home and take some cold medication.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Cepacol Maximum Strength comes in a small 4 fl. oz. see through bottle with a squirt top and plastic covering. The flavor that I had bought and continue to buy is the cherry flavor because it is tolerable going down.
Use is for temporary relief only of sore mouth, sore throat, pain due to canker sores, or irritation of the mouth or gums. Do not expect to use this spray and have your sore throat disappear forever because it is just not made for that.
Using this product is easy, simply aim the spray knob into the back of your throat and depress the nozzle. After you feel the medication in your throat, swallow a few times to spread it around. Adults should spray a maximum of 4 times into your throat; children ages 2-12 should use 2-3 sprays. Children under 2 years of age should consult a doctor. A maximum of 4 times a day is recommended.
As with most medications, please keep out of reach of children. In case of an overdose, please contact a health professional or youre nearest poison control center. Cepacol recommends that if your sore throat is still persistent after 2 days and accompanied by any other symptoms, contact your primary care physician.
If sore throat persists after 7 days, with no other symptoms, once again contact your primary care physician because you may need some stronger medication. Also, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, contact your primary care physician to make sure that Cepacol is all right for you to use.

The bottle states that Cepacol is an oral anesthetic spray with dyclonine.

MY THOUGHTS
I have to say that I absolutely love Cepacol more than any other sore throat medication than I have ever taken. It is easy to use with its spray top and convenient to take with you anywhere because it also has a clear cover to prevent leakage. And most importantly, it works.
Of course it only provides temporary relief to your sore and achy throat, but that is all it is meant for. You can also buy a bag of throat drops to help aid in numbing your sore throat along with the Cepacol.
The cherry flavor that I tend to use also doesnt taste all that bad, but it is a little stronger than most cherry flavored medications. I am one of those persons that hates bad tasting medicine and will not take it if I know it tastes really bad. Dont get me wrong, Cepacol is not the best tasting stuff in the world, but I can get it down without gagging at all...and thats a big point in my book. Just dont get a big whiff of the liquid, because the smell is also quite strong.
And it is simple to use. My younger cousin refuses to swallow any kind of pill except for childrens chewables, so Cepacol is perfect for when he has a sore throat. I would definitely recommend it for children ages 4 and up who are complaining of a sore throat and need immediate relief before seeing their pediatrician.
So yes, I do recommend using Cepacol when you have a nasty sore throat that is bothersome. At the price of $3.99-$4.99 a bottle, you may think that it is expensive, but the contents last a long time because the expiration date is usually 1 ½-2 years later.
