Pros: Low Price, Great Construction, Clean Bass, Powerful Bass, Excellent Bass Response, Etc...
Cons: Nothing At All
I own a Cerwin-Vega LW-12 in one of my home theater hook-ups, and my grandparents also use one. Mine is uses a THX certified subwoofer cable out of a Yamaha RX-V995, and my grandparents run it through the left main speaker out from a Yamaha RX-V596. Both of us are very pleased with this subwoofer. Read on to see why this is such an excellent subwoofer:
You can easily purchase the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 from Best Buy for only $299. I think that for only $300, the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is simply a steal! I use a Velodyne CT-120 in my more expensive hook-up, that subwoofer costed much more than the Cerwin-Vega LW-12, but there isn't much difference. For this price range, you simply can't do any better! The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 will offer you powerful clean bass and a solid construction for a very solid price. If you really want to impress everyone with powerful bass without having to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars, then try the Cerwin-Vega LW-12. This one is for you!
Looks and Styling:
This looks like any average front firing subwoofer. However, the construction of it is not cheap. I've seen KLH and Audiosource subwoofers, and backpanels and enclosures are cheap. However, the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 has a very expensive looking design. Or atleast I think so. This thing will look very good when it's tucked into the corner (Best spot for placement). Cerwin-Vega! has a good reputation for making great speakers, and the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 proudly carries 'Cerwin-Vega!' on the front for everyone to see.
Neither me or my grandparents have had any problems with this subwoofer. When they bought an Audiosource SW-50, they had major problems from the very beginning. However, there were no problems at all with the Cerwin-Vega LW-12. It has a very effective heat sink. Heat is something that you really have to worry about when it comes to electronics. The heat sink was able to take care of the heat though. After hours of use, the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 gets hot, but it still continues to rumble on. The backpanel has a very nice looking and solid design. The covering material is also made up of a strong fabric, I have had no rips or signs of wear. The driver also is the high quality Cerwin-Vega! driver that you'd expect. Overall, you're getting high quality equipment, no doubt about it. Cerwin-Vega! knows their subwoofers!
What should you expect? Obviously clean and powerful bass. The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 gave me everything that I wanted plus more. The cross-over frequencies are from 30Hz to 120Hz. Not many subwoofers in this price range that I've seen can go all the way up to 120Hz. The bass doesn't sound all too great up there, but it's not bad either! The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 hits every point of the spectrum with precise, clean, powerful, and heart-pounding bass. After playing Guns N' Roses on this subwoofer, I knew the true meaning of powerful bass. I was driving 100 Watts into it along with cross-over at 120Hz, and volume at max, and the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 still gave out very clean bass, and it made the paintings on the walls shake, and objects in the house began to move about. All I can say is wow. For only $299, you're getting all this. That's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Overall, you can't really do better in this price range.
Ease of Use:
The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is easy to use. It is very easy to plug cables into the backpanel, and it is easy to adjust the cross-over frequency and the volume levels. The instruction manual that comes with the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is also quite detailed, so nothing should be challenging.
The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is truly a subwoofer fir for a king, or atleast for someone on a tight budget who still wants amazing bass. The Cerwin-Vega LW-12 will deliver exactly what you want, and even more than that! I think that the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is definitely worth it. So if you want a truly rockin' subwoofer, then the Cerwin-Vega LW-12 is the one for you!
