Pros:Wonderful tea, and aroma
Cons:Can sometimes be hard to find, or pricey.
The Bottom Line: If you love spicy drinks, you might love this tea.
I am a daily tea drinker. My main drink of choice happens to be Thai Iced tea. I drink it like it is going out of style. In fact, I have probably drank 6 pounds worth of Thai Tea in the last month I love it so much. Once in a while though, I have to have a change from my Thai Iced tea. I thought I would give Chai tea a try since Thai and Chai are both black teas, I was hoping I would love Chai as much as the Thai.
Description
Good Earth puts out many different types of tea. One of my favorites is Good Earth's Chai Tea decaffeinated. You can purchase this in 18 individually wrapped tea bags to a package, or a case which contains 12 packages split between two boxes. Prices vary.
A package of 18 comes in an orange cardboard little box wrapped in plastic. You will find the "Tibetan character," on this package. Each tea bag is wrapped in a bright orange packet which have the directions right on the packet, and also the ingredients. Each tea bag comes with a string and tab for easy steeping.
You can find information about this teas history right on the side of the package. It is actually very interesting. This tea is also has its own "Natural Source of Antioxidants." So basically it is good for you.

The directions are simple: "Pour boiling water over one tea bag in a cup; cover and let steep for 4-6 minutes. Add milk & honey if desired.

My Experience
Like I had mentioned earlier, both Thai and Chai are both black teas, and can sometimes have some of the similar ingredients yet have quite different ingredients as well.
I have had Thai Tea with Star Anise, and Cardomom, both very unique ingredients. I noticed those same ingredients were in the Chai.
I make my Chai tea in my Senseo coffee maker. (SHHHH.. Don't tell anyone.) Basically my Senseo just pours boiling water into my little tea pot. My tea pot makes about 3 cups. I use 3 or 4 bags. I want my tea very strong because later I will add ice. I will let my tea bags steep for at least 4-5 minutes. I will then let the tea cool in the pot until it is a bit warmer than lukewarm. I will then divide my tea into 3 or 4 tall glasses. I want my tea fairly warm so that when I mix my sweetened condensed milk in it, it mixes well. I don't want it hot because I don't want my ice cubes melting to fast and making my tea weak. It has to be just right. I add my sweetened condensed milk. I get a tablespoon of milk along with 2 splenda packets and then stir. I fix everyone elses with 3 or 4 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk, and about 2 tablespoons of sugar. I will then add 4-5 large ice cubes. My heavens! Is this ever wonderful. The aroma of the spices, especially the cinnamon fills my kitchen. Pow! You better like cinnamon, nutmeg, and spices such as these or you will be in for a real dissappointment. If your unsure whether you will like this tea, I would definitely not drink it without the sweetened milk. It packs a strong punch. The milk makes it taste so sweet and creamy. This is also how I like my Thai Tea. It almost taste like a liquid dessert. It is very filling and satisfying.
I am not going to give up my daily Thai tea for Chai, nor could I possibly drink Chai everyday. It is a tea I reserve for maybe once or twice a week. My daughter could drink it by the pot and often does. I can only enjoy it with the sweetened condensed milk. Being that I shouldn't really have all those carbs, I try to cut my Chai drinking down to twice a week. I can handle drinking my Thai tea, with just splenda, lemon, and fat-free milk. It doesn't taste the same with Chai.
I would have to say that Chai Tea basically taste like Thai, only with a powerful kick of spices. Imagine drinking a strong apple cider without the apple flavoring. That is sort of what it reminds me of. People either love it or hate it. The star anise, and the cardommon are a bit weaker than the powerful cinnamon. The cinnamon really dominates here.
I am not to fond of this tea hot. I will drink it hot if I have a cold. But it is not my favorite hot.
Overall?
If you like cinnamon and spice, you might want to give this tea a try. If you are a Thai Iced tea drinker I highly recommend trying this tea just don't forget the sweetener (artificial, raw, or even palm sugar) and some sort of milk (sweetened condensed, evaporated, are nice).
