MARIEROY's Full Review: Elise Marie Collins - Chakra Tonics: Essential Eli...
The body springs from a web of energy which dances through every cell; what occurs in one portion of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual beings is likely to have an impact on every other portion, to some degree. An understanding of this energy is useful in being able to affect the changes we want to make in our lives, including dietary transitions.
Amadea Morningstar, The Ayurvedic Cookbook
This small compact book titled Chakra Tonics: Essential Elixirs for the Mind Body and Spirit caught my eye while perusing through the section of alternative health remedies. Tucked in among books on Reiki, Chakra Healing, Message Therapy, detoxification, this book recently published in 2006, the author Elise Marie Collins, I found not only informative, but enlightening in that it describes the various chakras.
Having recently completed a Reiki I workshop where I am now able to channel positive energy to reduce stress, promote healing, I have to say that approaching an alternative method for keeping ourselves healthy is one of many ways to treat an illness.
I also have to say that anyone under the care of a physician still needs to stay with that person for the duration of their treatment as this book and books like it are not meant to treat, diagnose, or prescribe. Or should we substitute the information contained and that should always consult a qualified physician or appropriate health care professional.
By reading this type of material we do become aware of the acid/alkaline balance in our body system. Understanding the bodys pH helps us maintain a healthier environment for overall health. We are told when the body becomes too acidic, below 7.3, it can actually be dangerous to our health. Again, if it becomes too alkaline above 7.5 the same thing occurs. Soda has a pH of 2.5 (very acidic) so that one would need to drink thirty-two glasses of alkaline water to create that balance. It seems in our western culture that excess acidity is more the norm than not.
The book then goes into describing the chakras, which is the plural of the Sanskrit word chakrum, meaning wheel, and are filters through which our soul receives and broadcasts pure energy. I am just beginning to learn about these wheels of energy, which operate invisibly, behind the walls of our physical bodies.
CHAPTER ONE:
Shows the seven bodily chakras:
1st is the Root Chakra survival, basis sustenance (base of the spine.)
2nd is the Sacral Chakra emotions, sexuality, procreation (top of the sacrum.)
3rd is the Belly Chakra physical and spiritual power, body/spirit energy center (solar plexus.)
4th is the Heart Chakra balancing center for love, and affinity for self and others (center of the chest.)
5th is the Throat Chakra center of eloquence and communication (base of the throat.)
6th is the Brow Chakra clear mind and intuition center. (Between the eyebrows known as the third eye chakra.)
7th Grown Chakra transcendence, instantaneous knowing, divine connection (top of the head.)
Go into any bookstore and you will find an extensive selection on this subject of Chakras. Why I like this particular book because it gives a nice succinct overview that can help us understand the function of each of these energy wheels.
CHAPTER TWO:
This chapter provides information on what you will need to make these teas, tonics and smoothies. (Yes smoothies, and if there is one thing I do enjoy putting together are smoothies, using a lot of ice. It is one way I found to really get nourishing foodstuffs into my system.
CHAPTER THREE:
This chapter gives the necessary ingredients needed to make these concoctions, e.g. yogurt, milk (cow or goat), rice milk, soymilk, or almond milk. Then there is protein powder, canned coconut milk, nuts and nut butter, seeds, tofu, herbs and spices, and your essential fatty acids. I cant stress enough the importance of getting all of this into a diet designed for optimum health. I do know if you were to go into any bookstore, pick up a book by any of the health gurus, e.g. Dr. Andrew Weil you will find they also strongly recommend a list of similar foods.
The following chapters Four through Eleven focuses on each of the above respective chakras, giving more details of each and then providing corresponding recipes for each. For instance in the chapter on Root Chakra gives a mega-nutritious liver, kidney, intestinal cleansing containing a juicing of carrots, beets, lemon, parsley, celery, cucumber, red pepper and ginger and garlic to taste. This in itself provides the American Cancer Societys recommended nine serving of fruits and veggies. And one of many reasons why these recipes are so good as they provide us a way to get all necessary veggies and fruits into our system.
Tonight I may put together a fall pumpkin smoothie, which has powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory powers, not to mention phytonutrients like beta-carotene and alpha-carotene. I have all the ingredients on hand: pumpkin, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, banana and purified water. So for me it will be easy enough to do.
This book CHAKRA TONICS provides not only a good basic understanding of what our bodies need in terms of nutrition but also helps us become aware of an alternative approach to healing. The book is small enough to easily carry along with us when we shop for the ingredients. I find having them on hand saves a lot of time as well as energy.
In Chakra Tonics, Collins outlines a brief description of the chakras and addresses the source of health problems in our energetic bodies, describing ...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
