Pros: SPF, goes on smooth, protects lips
Cons: does not smell or taste like strawberry
The Bottom Line: Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry was a good temporary replacement that works well, but I wouldn't buy it again unless I can't find my first choice.

Back in the summer I went to the beach on vacation and somehow managed to forget my lip balm. My lips are always a little dry, but at the beach the combination of the sun and wind make my lips horribly dry and cracked. The convenience store by my hotel did not carry the lip balm I usually buy so I just picked up a random lip balm that had some SPF. I ended up buying Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry.
Price
I paid about 80 cents for my tube of Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry at a convenience store. The price range I've noticed at other stores for this product seems to be about 50 cents to $1.
Packaging
Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry comes in a small white tube with a cap that twists on and off. There is a small dial at the end of the tube to twist the product up or down during use. The tube is covered in a red plastic wrapper with all the product information written on it.
The Product
The actual product has the standard lip balm waxy texture and look. It is a bright pink color but goes on clear. It glides on smoothly and also wipes off easily. It doesn't taste like strawberry like I expected it to; in fact it has no taste at all. The scent of the product is also not strawberry like I expected; it smells more like the menthol chest rub my mom used to clear up a stuffy nose when I was growing up. Luckily, it is not a very strong scent and I can only detect it while I'm applying the product. Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry also has an SPF of 4 to protect your lips from the sun.
Directions
From the package: Apply liberally before sun exposure and as needed. Children under 6 months of age: ask a doctor.
My Experience
I used my tube of Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry several times a day for the two weeks that I was on vacation, but as soon as I was home I abandoned it for my usual favorite, OraLabs Essential Extra Moisture Lip Balm. Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry is a good product; I just prefer a different one.
Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry glides on easily and doesn't feel heavy on your lips. It also doesn't seem to break small pieces off onto your lips like some other lip balms do. It did a good job of protecting my lips from the bright sun and heavy wind at the beach, keeping them soft and moist. I was also impressed that the product still worked well and didn't turn gritty after melting a little in the sun. The tube also held up well, getting dropped and stepped on numerous times.
Final Thoughts
The Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry was a good temporary replacement, but I wouldn't buy it again unless I am ever in another situation where I need a lip balm and I can't find my first choice. I would recommend it though because it does do what it claims and the main reason I wouldn't buy it again is because I already have a favorite lip balm product. I guess I would say that Chapstick Lip Balm SPF 4 Strawberry has earned a place as my second favorite lip balm.
