LILvoyce's Full Review: Charleston Chew Strawberry
My Grandmother was always a fan of Charleston Chew. They are these really long candy strips of taffy drenched in chocolate. I remember my Grandmother would always have them hiding in her freezer.
They used to come in different flavors. If I can remember right they used to come in raspberry as well. I haven't seen that flavor in many years. You do sometimes see them in Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. I do have a hard time finding these bars. They are not at all grocery and convenient stores. Actually I have a hard time finding them. We do have one grocery store in my town that carries them in 2.1 oz bars for around 79 cents.
My Thoughts
These bars remind me of taffy. The strawberry Charleston Chew is packaged in a strawberry colored wrapper. The strawberry ones are very sweet and are sooo chewy. Over time they get harder and harder and the chewiness is almost impossible to make it through these bars without harming your dental work. If they are fresh, they are still quite a bit chewy. I love the light strawberry flavor.
The chocolate to me is a bit to dark to be considered a favorite. I like a milder more milk chocolate flavoring. The taffy chew and the chocolate go together so-so. The flavors of the two don't really blend together.
I much prefer to do what the package says, and to eat them frozen. If you freeze them and bang them against a hard surface you will have many bite size pieces which are much better and easier to chew. I think the strawberry flavor tends to come out more when they are frozen.
When not frozen you can really taste the chocolate. The taffy is so hard to bite into, and to pull appart for that matter. You really have to chew this product well. I am not that fond of it, but it is just ok.

Overall
I am going to give these bars an average rating. I think their chocolate needs a bit of toning down. The flavors just don't blend together as well as they could. The bars are a bit chewy for my teeth. I prefer them frozen. I will recommend as an average bar.
