The Chart House in Boston Delights your Taste Buds but not your Bank Account

At the beginning of June we visited Boston and we paid a visit to the Chart House down by Boston Harbor. There are several Chart House restaurants around the country but the one in Boston Harbor is beautifully located and serves great sea food and steaks.
The restaurant is located right by the water front not far from the New England Aquarium and the Whale Watching cruises. It was also pretty close to our hotel Intercontinental. We were a fairly large group consisting of fourteen people. We were seated on the third floor.
The menu features a lot of sea food including lobster, crab, crab cakes, shrimp, scallops, clam chowder, lobster bisque, salmon, tuna, tilapia, scrod, snapper, swordfish, mahi mahi, and more. They also serve steak and poultry including prime rib, filet mignon, blue cheese filet mignon, tenderloin medallions, and chicken romano. They have salads and soups, various apertizers, and desserts. Some entrees come with a side but many don’t so you need to pay for that separately in that case. As far as I could see they did not have a kids menu but my kids have grown out of that anyway. The price of the entrees including sides varies from $21.00 to $55.00. It is a fairly pricey restaurant. However, the food is of high quality.
I ordered an 8 ounce blue cheese filet mignon with baked potato. I also had Samuel Adams Summer Ale and a couple of Belgian beers. They had a lot of choices of beer and wine. I also tasted some other food including shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, and a fish. My filet mignon was $36.00 plus the side for $6.00 ($42.00). The filet was very tender, juicy, and tasty. No one at the table complained about their food so I think it is safe to say that the food was good. However, even though the clam chowder and the other sea food I tried was good it did not compare to the sea food at Legal Sea Food across the street.
The service was friendly but a little bit stressed out and I found it also to be quite slow. Our dinner took a long time. On the other hand we were 14 people. We were sitting in a fairly private area upstairs on the third floor. The restaurant is huge with four floors and it has a nice “lodge” ambiance with brick walls and thick dark wood floors and furniture and impressive “lodge style” decorations. We sat in a fairly secluded area and the noise level where we sat was not too bad. However, downstairs it was quite noisy.

Final Recommendation
The steaks were great and the sea food was pretty good. However, it was not top notch in Boston as far as I could tell. Nearby Legal Sea Food had even better sea food and they are a little less expensive. The noise level was a little high in certain parts of the restaurant and the service a little slow. However, overall the Chart House is a great restaurant that I can recommend.
