| ImAmes's Full Review: Check-up Ernie |
As many of you know, our little girl has been in and out of the hospital every month since March. A good friend of mine bought Emily "Check-up Ernie" for Emily for her to be able to relate her pain to. Even though I have 2 Ernie dolls already, I didn't mind this one because it was the most PERFECT toy for an ill child. Some may say that the toy is a constant reminder of Doctors, which are associated with the Hospital- I disagree. I see it as a vital tool for my 14 month old to relate to on HER level, and hopefully it will calm her down when it comes time to go to the Hospital in September.
Check-up Ernie is wearing his usual striped shirt and blue pants, but seems to have gotten into a bit of an accident.
On his right leg, a cloth attached band-aid that can be removed half-way, covers his boo-boo on his shin. When your child lifts the band-aid to investigate, they will hear Ernie say "My Boo-Boo is All Better."
Good thing his boo-boo is all better, because now Ernie seems to have come down with a nasty cold that he just can't shake. Grab a kleenex and squeeze Ernie's nose, he will say "Honk, honk" and wiggle his cute little orange ears. After you let go, Ernie thanks you and says "I was all stufffed up." Don't worry, if you don't have kleenex available, Ernie has his own hankerchief sewn to his right hand, so he will never lose it.
Because of all the things that Ernie has been dealing with, he decides that his heart should be checked out too. Hiding in his front pocket is his pal Froggy, so you must move the froggy before checking out Ernie's heart. He is attached to a yellow string, so he won't jump far or escape. Ernie's front pocket has a small heart design on it, and when pressed, you will hear his heart beat. After you are done checking his heart, Ernie will say "I have a good heart."
Check-up Ernie comes with a blue, yellow, and red stethescope, a flesh colored tongue depressor that says "Aaah" on it, and a yellow themometer that when twisted shows the temperature go up or down.
We accidentally got some baby food on Ernie's hand, and it washed off easily. The hankerchief is sewn in well, so it won't be coming off unless you really tug at it. The same goes for the band-aid on his leg, and the string that attaches his pal frog to his pocket. Because of this small string, that CAN be chokeable, they recommend the age of this product for 18 months and older. We let our soon to be 15 month old play with it, in our supervision only- use your discretion as always.
Check-up Ernie can be bought at Toys R Us, and because I was just there last week, I saw him on clearance for $15.00 -a great deal!! I highly recommend Check-Up Ernie for any child who deals with hospitals, will be going into one, or even for that "first check-up" as a toddler. I hope your child enjoys Check-up Ernie has much as mine does.
