| Rosethyme's Full Review: Chef's Choice Gourmet Food Slicer Model 600 |
I have a Magic Chef Model 600 kitchen slicer. It is light weight and easy to use. You dial the thickness you want, then turn on the unit. I use it for my holiday baking and entertaining.
I find the Magic Chef fast, efficient, smooth and surprisingly quiet. It has a heavy duty geared motor--when it’s running, a soft whir is all you hear. But that’s enough to let you know the blade is rotating. It has a sawtooth blade that slices through food easily and quickly. There is a food guide shelf and a food pusher block for safety, so your fingers never come near the blades.
It comes with a small tray for collecting the sliced foods below, away from the blade. The width is adjustable so you can cut thick or thin depending on your needs. The maximum setting is about 1/2 inch wide, more than enough for most kitchen needs. There are aslo rubber suction feet that stick to the table so the unit is very stable when using.
The blade comes off for easy cleaning and reassembling, so you can be certain no food remains on the unit. All in all a well designed and fairly safe slicer. You must always exercise care and caution when using any mechanical cutting or slicing machines.
I paid about $90.00 for my unit as a closeout. It was money well spent.
