The Ceramic love
I have mid length, bleached, very fine hair that is neither straight now curly. Not even wavy. Lumpy is the word. Until last summer, I had to rely on blow drying straight, scrunching curly or using a cheap metal straightening iron. My hair generally styled ok, but was a lumpy frizzy mess, so matter what I did, within minutes of leaving home. Due to the lumpy aspect, it generally took on a gross, asymmetrical shape that was not stylish!!
Then I discovered Ceramic irons. I started with the Ceramix, a 100$ CAD iron that worked great at first, and gave me a healthy love of the ceramic iron. Then, when it slowed down and eventually died, I went for cheaper one-the Conair Instant Heat . Not a bad one
but I got it in the middle of a very bad heat/humidity wave, and found it just could not make my hair stand up to that weather. My hair was a frizzy mess by noon.
and the CHI came to my rescue
My friend let me try her CHI. Of course Ive had it used in my hair at the salon, but reality is my hairdresser could style my hair with a toothpick and make it look great-so I had assumed it was the salon, not the CHI to lay the praise on. Then I tried my friends at work one morning. My hair was instantly straight and smooth, more so than any iron had ever gotten it. I left the office for about 4 hours, and was outside in the humidity a lot in that time. When I returned, I ran to the bathroom-tada-my hair was still perfect!!! You can guess where my next trip was
More about the CHI
I got the CHI at Trade Secrets for 200$ CAD. With it I picked up a bottle of Joico Silk Results Instant Smoother
The next day was Saturday. I had washed and air-dried my hair the night before. I plugged in the iron, brushed my teeth and sprayed my hair, combing through evenly. By the time I was done all that, the iron was hot to the touch (from the outside). I clipped my top layers up, ran the iron through the bottom layers twice, the dropped the top and did the same |(I dont have a lot of hair). My hair looked fabulous!!! I then ran a tiny drop of Joico Brilliantine over my hair. It looked like Id just left the Salon. That day I went to the Zoo. Not only was it hot and humid outside, but also I went into the inner pavilions-which are like saunas. My hair made it!!! It did not make it through the water park-but of course I would not expect that as I go soaked. But it lasted through over 6 hours in the humidity, without any break as the whole time I was either outside or in Pavilions. I was hot, sweaty and uncomfortable. My face was red and my make-up was streaking. But my hair LOOKED FABULOUS!!!
This is now my 4th day with the CHI . As I get better and better at my technique, my hair looks better and better. I am no ceramic iron virgin, by the CHI is so superior, both in its ability to make my hair look smooth and shiny and its ability to make the style stay in my hair, I feel like I am.
More about the CHI
The CHIruns about 200$CAD at salons. I found it on EBAY, but after shipping costs it would not have been much less to Canada.
The CHI has 1 inch ceramic plates. They heat up in less than a minute, and get as hot as 250 degrees. Most ceramic irons only go to 210 (according to trade secrets). The plates open and close in a v shape, not a scissors shape like my last iron.
The CHI has no heat control. Thats ok, I like it hot.
CHI has an on/off button inside the iron, next to the plates. It is impossible to turn it off accidentally.
Why I love it...
I think that is obvious. Straightens and smoothes my hair beautifully, and the look lasts all day, even in heat, humidity and drizzle.
As well, there are a few other things I like:
It is small and sleek. Would be easy to travel with, and takes up little room on my counter.
It heats quickly and works quickly. I can go from morning hair to smooth and sleek in 10 minutes, and that includes heating time.
Any complaints?
I wish it had auto-off, as it is so hot, I get worried I will forget to turn it off and burn my house down. My husband now double checks for me.
No attached comb. My others had this, I like the way it holds my hair taut. Then again, the CHI works so well I guess I dont need it, I just comb through the sections first. But it would be a nice little option.
All in all, my CHI makes me very happy. I am going to go write a love sonnet to it now
