This was a great purchase for me. After having used the same, sad knives for more than 10 years, I didn't know what to buy. I did a bit of research and ended up purchasing this set from Amazon.com on sale for half price. It was well worth the money. The knife handles are brushed steel and the block is solid and attractive. The neutral block color fits with any decor. So far after several months of continuous use they have kept their edge. The only negative comment I have about this set is that if you decide to put them in the dishwasher (they are supposedly dishwasher tolerant), be prepared for a few rust spots. My recommendation is to HAND WASH ONLY. Don't be lazy like I was. If you keep this in mind, these knives should last a long time. I believe the knives retail for around $90, so for my $45, I got a great bargain. Even at the regular price these are a "steel."
