| tamlin99's Full Review: Chicago Cutlery Legacy Forged Knife Set |
I got a set of these Chicago Cutlery forged knives for Christmas last year, and love them. Previously I had bought a couple of no-name medium-priced knives for the kitchen, but they never really held a good edge. The Chicago Cutlery knives have stayed sharp for a long time - in fact, I've only needed to sharpen the large chef's knife once.
They feel really good in the hand - the weight and balance are wonderful, even on the small paring knife. The large chef's knife has easily sliced through everything I've put under it. The handles are quality walnut, and haven't faded from washing (no dishwashers - wash by hand only!)
My set came with kitchen shears, which have a screwdriver/bottle opener built in, which sticks out from the handle. The screwdriver blade is a little sharp itself, so you have to be careful when you grab for the shears. I haven't used the shears that much, so I don't know how well they hold up to tough jobs, or how long they stay sharp. But they've worked great for the things I have cut with them.
The block is also very nice wood - well crafted. The whole set is quality stuff. Well worth the price, because you will keep them forever.
