Ease of Use:
Pros:good safety rating, comfortable, easy to install, stylish
Cons:heavy, poorly designed sun shade, won't fit in carts
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this product. Primarily for the high safety rating. The few cons are minor.
I bought the KeyFit 30 for my third child at the suggestion of a friend who had used the seat for her two kids. (I had used the Graco SnugRide with my first two.)
Overall, I've been very pleased with the seat! It is extremely easy to install using the LATCH system and has little bubbles on the base (like on a level) to let you know that the base is installed at the right angle. When the seat is placed into the base it makes a very distinct "click" to let you know that it's secure. And it has an excellent Consumer Reports safety rating.
From birth, it fit my son very well- unlike other seats where baby's head is not well supported and special inserts are required to help hold the head upright. The straps are very easy to adjust to get him in and out. He has been very cozy and comfortable in the seat to the point that he prefers to sleep in it at night rather than his crib.
Though less important- I really like the color scheme of this seat. It's gender neutral (so it could be used for other kids) and not at all babyish.
Maybe my son is just very hot-natured, but he sweats a ton in this seat.
The seat itself is pretty heavy, add a baby to that and hefting it around can be a strain, but I think that's pretty standard with infant seats.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the sun shade is pretty useless. It does not pull forward far enough to block sunlight from the baby's face, or to protect the baby from rain.
The seat does not fit into the front area of any shopping cart that I have tried. This can making shopping difficult- especially if you have other children or are doing a big shopping trip. (My solution is to wear the baby in a Bjorn or other carrier while shopping.)
The seat is rear-facing only, not a convertible seat. It is for use with kids up to 30 pounds. I'm not sure if the high weight limit is a plus for some, but it's not for me. If you like an infant seat (rather than a convertible seat) for the convenience of being able to take the child out of the car without taking them out of the seat, 30 pounds is really heavy to carry around! I think most kids would outgrow this seat by height well before they hit the 30-pound mark.
