Our dachshund was continually hungry, yet also seemed to be losing weight. I tried a few other high end dog foods, but none had quite the right balance for our dog. I was then referred to a local feed mart that specialized in carrying unique brands of dog food. This is where I came across the Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul.
The packaging for this brand stood out amongst the rest. It had a heavy plastic smooth bag instead of paper based and was brightly colored. The Red "Campbell's Soup" label style was effective next to all the darker green, brown and blue bags.
The wording on the bag indicated the product was all natural and contained Duck, Chicken and other proteins. I went to the back of the bag for proof. The product is made by Diamond Brand. The main ingredients were indeed full proteins and not meals. There are meals present, but not until later on the ingredient list. There were natural grains, vegetables and even fruits. The bag contained a good combination of varied ingredients that I felt would balance out my dog. I bought the smaller bag, I believe it is 6 or 7lbs.
When I came home, I opened the bag, which was easy to do with a scissor. No funny strings to pull. The dog food did not smell obnoxious. The kibble was small in size, all about the size of a small lima bean. It was all uniform in color, dog food brown.
I immediately noticed a wet nose from the peanut galary sniffing at the bag. My dog wanted in! So, at dinner time he received his new food and it went down faster than I could turn around in the kitchen! I watched for signs of the new food disagreeing with him, but really, he's the most on schedule and natural he's been since we've owned the little guy.
The dog is keeping a steady weight, does not seem nearly as hungry, has great healthy poops (not that anyone wants to think about it) and just loves this new food. His coat is shiny and his energy level is healthy. We have purchased it for the last 5 months and we will not be switching anytime soon. We have found our healthy balance for this small dog.
I would like to note that I feel this is a good multiple dog dog food choice. Since the product is so balanced for adult dogs, this would be a good choice for those people who may have a small house dog and a big hunting dog. You wouldn't have to buy two different foods.

Below is the ingredient list as posted on their website. I also did the Dog Food scoring test and found the points to add up to about 112 (give or take a few points). The dog food scored an A. The test link is posted below as well.
