| krnorup's Full Review: Children's Vicks NyQuil |
This is a comparison of 2 children's over the counter Medicines... The first being pedia care. Epinions didn't have it listed under the children's medicines and I wanted all to know of my disappiontment of it. The second is the Children's Vicks Nyquil, and my happiness of its use.
Recently while at my moms for a funeral, my son got sick. He had a runny nose and a cough and a small fever, so being like most parents I turned to my mom. She stopped and bought him some Pedia Care cough and cold. It was recommended to her and I trust her opinion since she does work in a hospital.
He seemed to do a little better but not too much. We then arrived home and the worst was yet to come. The symptoms wouldn't go away, they got worse. He was up all the time, his poor nose was looking like rudolph, he couldn't rest and just plain driving me up the wall since he was so whiny. We bought the Nightime Pedia Care also for bedtime thinking this would help him at nightime. We went through the entire bottle of each and it did nothing for him.
Being out of options I felt it was time to call in the professional, I then called the Dr.'s office. I spoke to a nurse and she listened to me tell her everything, asked questions and said she would talk to the doctor and call me back. When she called she told me that all he had was the flu and that I should buy another bottle of Pedia care and give him that. Along with fluids and a vaporizor(which I had been doing anyway).
So here I head over to Walmart and start comparing bottles. I was not going to buy another bottle of the stuff when it wouldn't work for my son.The pedia care listed all the basic stuff as dosage, indications, active ingredients, Warnings, and the drug interaction warnings. Sounds good right? So I start wondering if I'm just losing my mind here over a stupid medication. I talked to my husband and we decided to try another brand and see how that worked.
What did we buy? Children's Vicks Nyquil. Now here is a medicine that does what it says and I trust completely now. It is an antihistamine, nasal decongestant and a cough suppressant all in one. It contains no alcohol or aspirin for those of us that look for that type of thing. lol.
The first night that we brought it home, we tried it. About a half an hour after taking it he was out like a light, sleeping soundly. He wasn't coughing or tossing and turning. He was finally getting the peaceful rest that he needed to help fight this flu bug off.
This was the only medicine that we tried that actually did what it said it would do. It calmed his cough, helped with the runny nose and all in all helped him get a good night sleep. So of course mommy finally got a good night sleep too.
I would personally recommend this to anyone with a child that is sick and needs something to help them at night time. This product did what it said it would do and I will continue to use this for a long time to come for my son.
There is an important warning though that needs to be seen. It is:
"Do not exceed recommended dosage. If nervousness, dizziness or sleeplessness occur, discontinue use and ask a doctor. May cause marked drowsiness. May cause excitablility in children."
Also you should not take this medicine at the same time as these medicines:
1. sedatives
2. tranquilizers
3. a prescription monoamine ixidase inhibitor.
You should also not use this product for more than 7 days without talking to a doctor. Or if the cough gets worse or is persistant it may be the sign of a more serious condition.
Thank you for reading and I'm happy to say that my baby Boo (almost 2) is feeling much better and is back to his normal state.
