| pmckay's Full Review: Choo-Choo Charlie: The Littletown Train Books |
I decided to write a review on a game called Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train. I came to epinions.com and began searching for the game. I was almost embarrassed to find out that our game is not a game, but rather it is a book. Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train, illustrated by Michael Welply and written by Dawn Bentley is book that plays like a game.
Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train comes in a cardboard sleeve, similar to how computer software is packaged. The “book” is actually a 35+ inch game board, that folds into quarters, fitting into the cardboard sleeve. The “book” opens up, where you can read the two-page story printed on the back of the game board. When the board is unfolded, there are several pop-ups, creating a three-dimensional village. Encompassing the board is a train track. There is a small envelope that holds 11 punch-out characters from the story for creative play. And to bring the entire adventure together, there is a small plastic wind-up train (Choo-Choo Charlie) that children can easily wind up, bringing the story to life! The train even makes great train sounds!
The story opens with Engineer Jack waking up and accompanying Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train along in the daily run. The story continues as the pair meets and greets their various friends throughout the day. The story concludes with Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train going to sleep after a long day.
My sister purchased this gift at her local Toys R Us. I found it on etoys.com for $24.99.
The book is recommended for children aged 3 and up. I would not recommend it for children under 4, as there are several small pieces that can bend easily. My 4-year-old daughter enjoys this game, and can set it up herself for play. I recommend it for an unusual gift for both boys and girls. WHOO-EE! WHOO-EE! (That’s the hello whistle from Choo-Choo Charlie, The Littletown Train!)
