Pros: comfortable, warm, attractive, waterproof (almost...)
Cons: Zipper got stuck, and I can't get it out!
The Bottom Line: These boots are made for walkin' -- in the snow and to the bar. Just be careful with the zippers.

| beckytcy's Full Review: Totes Chromatics Snowflake Boots |
It has been a cold, snowy winter in Boston. This might sound like I'm stating the obvious, but it has been colder and snowier than usual. So, I need a high-quality, comfortable snow boots that are going to keep my feet warm and dry. Plus, I want the boots to look decent in public because I don't want people laughing at me on the subway.
Could Totes Chromatics Snowflake Boots be stylish and practical? I may be asking for too much....
My first pair of boots of the season was made by a no-name brand. I bought them at Payless. You get what you pay for, of course, and the zipper broke, so I had to throw them away. In search of a better boot, I went to Modell's sporting goods store and picked up a pair of these Totes Chromatics Snowflake Boots. They are black with some embroidered snowflakes on the side and a small amount of fur sticking out of the top -- not so much as to become the subject of a Flo Rida song.
I don't really like the embroidered snowflakes because they look a little bit juvenile, but the salesman said that these boots were waterproof, and there weren't really any other options, so I bought them.
In terms of the design, I do like the shape of the boot. They come up to mid-calf and are narrower and more feminine than my previous pair of boots. In fact, if I cover them with jeans or trouser (as opposed to tucking them in), they look like normal boots. Compared to my previous pair of boots, I feel much more comfortable wearing these out to a bar after work. They even have a moderate heel, so they are definitely the most attractive snow boots I have ever owned. They actually look a lot nicer in reality than they do in the Epinions photo above.
These boots are almost completely waterproof. They stand up well to normal snow, but my feet did get a little bit wet last night when I had to trudge through slush. I even had to walk through four-inch-deep puddles, and my feet stayed fairly dry -- but not completely dry. But they are more waterproof than my previous boots.
So, overall, I was very happy with these boots in terms of looks and comfort. And then, sadly, the zipper on the left boot gut stuck in the nylon flap and wouldn't budge. I tugged and tugged, but I couldn't get it out, and now the zipper seems to be mangled, too. Alas.
I only spent about $30 on these boots, and I did like them a lot before this zipper incident, so I may try to bring them back to Modell's for an exchange. I have only had them for about a week and a half. (I remember the exact date because it was Inauguration Day.) I know that Totes have "lifetime guarantees" on some of their umbrellas (ella, ella), so maybe they'll take pity on me and give me some new boots, too. If not, $30 isn't too much to pay for a new pair of attractive, (most) waterproof, warm boots. It doesn't look like this winter will be ending anytime soon.
