| Magick1's Full Review: Chunky Classic Chicken Noodle |
Winter is here and we just keep getting snow. We are under a blizzard warning tonight with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour after having gotten another round of snow (roughly 5 inches). Just 2 days ago, we had another 4 – 5 inches. And we are only 23 days into the “actual” winter season if you go by the winter solstice. But, one thing that I really enjoy in winter is soup. I will barely touch soup during the summer months, but the winter, it becomes a staple in my house. This soup is no exception.
The Product
This is one of Campbell’s Soup line Chunky Soups. The chunky implies big pieces and that is happening. This name is not a misnomer. This soup has some very large vegetables like carrots and celery and it has some very large curly noodles as well. The noodles they use are larger egg noodles. There is also old wives’ tales that say eating chicken soup is good at healing or fending off colds. Well, we will keep nibbling on this soup to help any way that we can!
The soup has a very good flavor, it’s not terribly bland but it’s not super spicy. They show a bit of spice listed in the ingredients, but it’s not the main flavor that you get out of this soup. The main flavors that hit you are chicken, carrots and celery which is nice considering some chicken noodle soups you can barely see any chicken or carrots and they definitely do not include celery. But, this soup you can definitely see what you are eating and taste the ingredients. The pieces of chicken are nice, hearty sized pieces, albeit there are not a lot of the pieces in the can. It’s a decent amount, regardless, though.
The noodles are not mushy but they are kind of bland and do not have a tremendous amount of flavor. There are quite a few included in this can of soup. But, at least they are nice sized, chunky noodles rather than tiny little slivers of “forgotten” noodles that you find in other chicken noodle soups!
The Ingredients
Per the can, which is a net weight of 18.6 ounces (some selections are for 10 ounce cans…this review did not specify). Chicken stock, cooked chicken meat, carrots, enriched egg noodles (wheat flour, egg white solids, whole egg solids, niacin, ferrous sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), celery, water, contains less than 2% of the following ingredients: modified food starch, salt, chicken fat, monosodium glutamate, sugar, soy protein concentrate, onion powder, flavoring, sodium phosphates, dehydrated parsley, chicken flavor (contains chicken stock, chicken powder, chicken fat), dehydrated garlic, spice, beta carotene for color, spice extract.

Overall Impressions
This is another wonderful soup offered by Campbell’s Soups Chunky line. The flavor is good, not bland but not so heavily seasoned that you cannot tell it’s chicken noodle soup. The ingredients are large pieces not pieces so small you have to go on a scavenger hunt in order to find items they list on the label.
The can is very easy to prepare. You have a pull top to open the can, pour it in a bowl and heat roughly 1 – 2 minutes. One can is super filling and lasts a long time. You will not feel like you should have had a sandwich or something else with this can of soup. The price is pretty reasonable. The sodium is the bad part of this soup. But, they offer a healthier version of a lot of these soups, from what I have seen advertised. I cannot vouch for that soup’s flavor. But, I can guarantee that the next purchase I make of Chunky Soups, I will be looking for the lower sodium options! But, if you enjoy a home-like flavor, enjoy large noticeable pieces of chicken, vegetables and noodles, you might want to check this soup out. It gives you this, decent flavor all at a pretty nice price.
