| noangels's Full Review: Citi Diamond Preferred Credit Card (Citigroup) |
My fiance and I opened a Citi Diamond Preferred Credit Card, shortly after he proposed. We wanted a rewards card to use when we were making our wedding-related payments. We intended to pay everything off immediately, but wanted the protection of making deposits with a credit card in case any vendors were to default on their contract. In the event that our florist goes out of business, we can get reimbursed by Citi and let them battle it out with the vendor. Our Citi Diamond Preferred Credit Card has proved to be the perfect card for us, providing hassle-free credit and rewards.
Application Process
We applied for our card on the phone after activating our debit cards for our Citi bank accounts. It was quick and pain-free. Just a few questions and they approved us. We received our cards within a week. Online applications are accepted. No set up, annual, or monthly fees are associated with this card.
Account Features
Citi gave us a fair limit with a 13.74 % APR. We have never been late with a payment, with the help of the grace period we have for paying the bill on time, but late fees vary by balance; for balances up to $100, a $15 fee, $29 on balances from $100-250, and $39 for any balance above that. I found these to be fair since every other card I have charges a fee of $25-35, regardless of your balance. Over limit fee is $39.
Balance transfers have 0% APR for 12 months after the transfer. The details of the account state that balance transfers will be accompanied by a 3% balance transfer fee ($250 max), but I was charged no fee for transferring a $300 balance. The transfer was easy to set up online and occurred within two business days.
Online Account Management
Citicards.com is easy to navigate and use. Your account can be viewed at any time of day and payments are free to make online. You can opt for paperless statements, and Citi has offered a few rewards for switching to this service. Credit increases can also be performed online. There is no fee for using the website.
Customer Service
Citi has provided excellent customer service. Getting a person on the phone is easy, and every time I have called, I have received fast and helpful service.
Rewards
Citis Thank You Network provides a huge selection of rewards, including gift cards, electronics, magazine subscriptions, charity donations, and statement rebates. This card earns you 1 point for every dollar spent, and 5 points for every dollar spent in supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations. Around the holidays, Citi also ran a promotion for members to earn 5 points for every $1 spent at specific retailers. The Thank You Network is easily accessed online, where you can check your points and choose your rewards. We also linked our debit cards and bank accounts to the site and are earning points from both!
Overall, a perfect (from my experience) rewards credit card!
