Mr. Ambrose interviewed many, many Americans that fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He recorded their successes, their failures, their joys and their fears. He captured the full emotions of the American soldier. These stories are very similar to the stories I hear from my uncle, who served in the 11th Armor. Of course, Stephen Ambrose recorded an accurate picture of the struggles Eisenhower went through in his many decisions. Ambrose has done a fantastic job of interviewing Americans from all races, creeds, ranks and educational backrounds. For all of us who did not fight in World War II, this book brings us all closer to those great Americans who sacrificed so much for the freedom of all the citizens of the world. Stephen Ambrose paints a fair picture of the battlefield, the officers, the enlisted men and the enemy. This book is full of emotion and heart.
