miller_rd's Full Review: Jess Walter - Citizen Vince
I read Citizen Vince by Jess Walter in about a day. It is an easy read, and it reads smoothly. In the story, Vince Camden (The main character) is not easily liked in the beginning for me. But as the book progressed, He started to warm up to me. By the end of the book, you are left in love with him.
This is a great story, written expertly, and hits elements of crime, the mob, FBI, Witness Protection, love, and politics (in the back-story). This book will inspire you, and will also make you feel bad for not voting in the past!
The story is set in the early 1980's and is about a former New York criminal with ties to the mob who is placed in the Witness Protection Program. He moves to Spokane, Wa and starts becoming very nervous that he has been found. He finds love, redemption, revenge and a love for his freedom.
He has to grapple internally with himself about the changes moving from New York to Spokane Washington, and also has an internal struggle about going clean, or going back to his old ways. He also has to debate (in the back story) about the upcoming Presidential Election.
