| germank106's Full Review: Clairol Herbal Essences Clarifying for Normal To O... |
I don't think there's anyone that has not seen the totally dumb Herbal Essences commercials. I traded shampoos with my mother-in-law after my last shampoo disaster. She got the Thermasilk, I got the Herbal Essences.
Now I have always been of the opinion that a shampoo that is advertised in such a dumb way couldn't possibly be good. Nice to know that I was totally and absolutely wrong. I still think they should fire their ad agency, but as far as the shampoo is concerned - I'm sticking with it.
My hair tends to be a bit oily. So washing hair on a daily basis is an absolute must. Coloring helps a bit and for the first few weeks after I color it, I can go to shampooing every other day. My previous shampoo has left my scalp dry and itchy, and my hair limp and thin. I figured switching to the Herbal Essence Shampoo couldn't hurt.
Herbal Essences is made by Clairol. Clairol is a manufacturer of hair color and hair care products. That's all they do. Their Herbal Essences shampoos come in a variety of scents and for a variety of purposes. I have chosen the clarifying shampoo, because too much built-up from styling products will leave my hair flat and my scalp itchy.
The bottle contains 12 fl.oz. According to the outside of the bottle this shampoo contains essence of rosemary, jasmine, orange flower and nourishing palm. I am not quite sure what a nourishing palm is, but if the stuff works, I'm not about to question it.
Ingredients in order:
Water; Sodium laureth sulfate; sodium lauryl sulfate; cocamidopropyl; betaine; citric acid; sodium chloride; sodium citrate; rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract; jasminum officinalis (Jasmine) extract; citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) flower extract; fragrance; cocamide MEA; sodium benzoate; tetrasodium EDTA; Methylchlorosothazolinone; methylisothiazolinone; disodium EDTA copper; sodium xylene sulfonate; yellow 5, orange 4; ext.violet 2
The bottle is somewhat flat, with a pop-open cap. The cap can also be screwed off, making it possible to dilute the last bit of shampoo with water. The cap has a large top, so the bottle can sit upside down without having to lean against the corner of the shower. I really like that the bottle is completely clear. I no longer have to guess how much shampoo I have left.
Rosemary and jasmine are two of my favorite scents and this shampoo smells divine. A bit citrusy with some underlying tones of jasmine. I wouldn't mind at all if Clairol would make this into a body spray. The scent lingers for quite some time after shampooing, but is subtle enough not to interfere with my perfume.
The back of the bottle states that my hair will be " radiantly restored, renewed and naturally flowing.". My hair's a bit too short to do much flowing, but it feels very soft and nice after using this shampoo. I've used this for a few days and have not yet had any problems with fly-aways, static or tangles.
My hair also seems to be more manageable when using things like blowdriers and curling irons. The hair lies better on the brush and the curling iron barrel and seems to hold a curl just a bit longer. I usally use some kind of frizz tamer on damp days, but have not had to do that for the past few days, eventhough it's pretty wet outside.
My hair looks healthier overall and shiny without looking greasy. That alone is worth using this shampoo. I don't have a big problem with split or dried ends, because I get a trim ever so often, but it feels like those little bits of hair that stick out and up have finally settled down.
To use, massage shampoo into wet hair and work into a lather. Rinse when ready and use with Clairol herbal essences conditioner for best results. I don't have the conditioner, but it works just fine with the brand I have.
Even with our hard water, this shampoo rinses out clean. I have not yet had problems with breakouts, itchy scalp or other skin conditions.
Overall I have to recommend this. The fragrance is nice but not overbearing, the shampoo works great for my hair and rinses out clean and the retail price of $3.99 is very affordable. As long as I hide this from the rest of the family, I assume it will last me about 6 - 8 weeks.
