Im the first person to admit that Im not particular about shampoo. As long as it cleans my hair without drying it out and it doesnt cost a lot, Im satisfied. If I get a little boost of volume, that is an extra bonus. I find that Clairol Herbal Essences Rainforest Flowers Extra Body Shampoo for Limp Hair meets all my criteria for a satisfactory shampoo.
Description
The packaging for this particular shampoo formula has the familiar Herbal Essences shampoo bottle shape (sort of a rounded rectangle); it is made of clear plastic with a dark green cap. The cap twists off but to dispense the product you there is a flip-top cap that is relatively easy to open. The bottle is decorated with the image of a wildflower inside the Herbal Essences logo; behind it there is an image of some greenery that looks like it might be found in a rainforest. Information on the front of the bottle includes the brand name, product name, amount contained, and a bit of information about the shampoo including the names of several flowers that are presumably found in rainforests (hibiscus, ylang ylang, and vanilla flower). The back has more detailed information, including an ingredients list, fuller product description, product claims, and directions for use. My bottle contains 12 fluid ounces (355 mL); some of the Herbal Essences hair care products are also available in larger sizes.
The shampoo itself is a transparent peachy orange color it looks more like shower gel than a creamy conditioner, if that makes any sense. It has the same texture as a shower gel as well it isnt as runny as water, but it isnt as thick as a lotion either. The scent of this particular formula is terrific. I am absolutely clueless about what particular flowers smell like, but if hibiscus, ylang ylang, and vanilla flower smell like this, I would love to have some growing in my house. It is sweet, bright, and floral without being overpowering or cloying like some floral scents. I dont detect an artificial note in it, either, which is nice.
Use and experience
The directions for use on the bottle read as follows, Massage your hair under a waterfall and get lost in the sensuous lather. Linger in the lush fragrance and exotic pleasure. Rinse when ready. For beautifully uplifted hair, use Herbal Essences Conditioner for Fine/Limp Hair. Finish with Herbal Essences Styling Products. Okay, so the directions are a bit over the top, but at least it doesnt add in rinse and repeat (who needs to wash their hair more than once, unless theyve been mining coal?). Usually I get into the shower (I guess that is kind of a waterfall), get my hair wet, add about a quarter size amount of this shampoo and lather my hair up. I probably use a bit more than I need, but Im not one to scrimp on shampoo. I cant say that Ive gotten lost in the sensuous lather, but I do notice that it smells great and it does give me an extra wake up boost in the mornings. This shampoo rinses out of my hair quickly and completely, leaving it clean and ready for conditioner.
I havent been using the recommended conditioner, but I do condition my hair daily. I usually do use some styling product as well (mousse and occasionally a cream to flatten down the frizzies on occasion as well). Even with all the extra stuff, my hair is clean and the Herbal Essences Rainforest shampoo does seem to give it an extra volume boost that I dont notice when using other shampoos. The shampoo scent doesnt linger possibly because Ive put other stuff into it but that is fine, I am happy to enjoy it while in the shower. My hair does smell clean even after using the other products. Overall Ive been very happy with the performance of this shampoo, so much so that I know Ill be buying it again.
Cost, Where to Buy, Ingredients
I usually buy shampoo at our local Target store, and it seems like they have Herbal Essences shampoos on sale very often. I usually combine a coupon from the Sunday newspaper supplement (there are always hair care coupons) and get a good price. Herbal Essences products arent expensive in any case; the most Id expect to pay for a 12 ounce bottle is around $3.50. If you dont have a Target store, other big box stores (like KMart) likely carry this line, as well as drugstores. The current price at www.drugstore.com for this shampoo is $3.02.
Ingredients list: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Coco/Isostearamide, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Hibiscus Abelmoschuus Extract, Cananga Odorota Flower Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Polyquaternium-10, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Xylenesulfonate, Orange 4.
I have been pleased overall with the performance of this shampoo not only does it get my hair clean, it is giving me a little volume boost as well. I love the scent as well. And I cant complain about the cost. Im sure Ill be buying this formula again. 5 stars.
