Since I have been conditioning my hair with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In Cream, and using a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, it has improved a lot after having a bad perm. Recently, I have been looking for a good mousse so that I can blow-dry it straight. Straightening irons are not doing the trick on their own. If I blow-dry, then iron and add a decent anti-frizz product, it turns out pretty darned good but I do want a certain amount of lift at the roots.
When I found Clairol Herbal Essence Extra Hold Mousse for volume and manageability at my local Walgreen’s, I picked it up to see if it would help.
Ingredients:
Water, Isobutane, Propane, Polyquaternium-11, Polyquaternium-4, Angelica Extract, Jasmine Extract, Willow Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Wheat Starch, Dimethicone Copolyol, Isosteareth-10, Fragrance, Octoxynol-9, Polysorbate 20, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben
This product comes in a white, 8fl oz can with a thin tubular mousse dispenser. The product is a white foam with a fresh scent.

My Experience:
I was a bit apprehensive about using mousse in my hair as it might reverse the effect of all the work and expense I had put into getting my hair back into shape. Mousse is known to dry your hair out and I have never come across a moisturizing mouse. However, I was going out for a meal and wanted to look nice so I went for it.
After washing and conditioning my hair, followed by my leave in conditioner, I shook the can and the product dispensed easily as foam, not partly liquid and that has happened with many other products I have used. The scent was a mixture of herbally and fruity, a fresh blend that pleased me. After massaging it in, especially at the roots, I proceeded to blow-dry. I always bend over to lift my roots as I blow dry. It gives the desired effect. Then I blow-dried it straight and used the irons minimally. My anti-frizz product finished it off well and I had plenty of body in the root area. I also found that my hair was easier to manage when styling.
I didn’t use a styling spray as that definitely dries my hair out. I didn’t want to use both. My hair was relatively soft after I added the anti-frizz but before it had been a little sticky. So, I got the desired effect. My hair was straight with a little lift at the roots without the help of a styling spray. BUT, I would say by an hour later, the lift was gone, my roots were flat and that disappointed me.
Conclusion:
Clairol Herbal Essence Mousse for volume and manageability did make my hair more manageable during and after styling but the volume was weak and left my hair pretty quickly. I must point out that my hair was deeply conditioned though and it might have been due to that fact that its performance wasn’t up to par. However, it also dried out my hair so it must have been more powerful than the conditioners.
I couldn’t recommend this product for increasing volume, as it is more effective in the manageability area. The lift in my roots flattened but the style stayed put. There are plenty of mousse products out there that can do the same so I would say that this is an average product with a great scent.
