| rhizu's Full Review: Clairol Infusium 23 Original Leave In Treatment fo... |
I think it's safe to say that we have seen the ads for "the leave in you can believe in" in print and on television. As with most advertising, I wanted to believe, but felt my hopes were better placed in the good hair fairy coming down and anointing my hair with pixie dust. It could happen, right?
I live in a very dry part of the country. For me, anything over 20% humidity is like sitting in a sauna. As a result, battling the dreaded frizzies, static electricity, and tangles had become a good portion of my hair routine. On a whim, and after absorbing so much commercialism, I decided to give this product a try. (I swear to you, the advantages of not having to rinse stuff out, and use more water occurred to me only in passing!)
Finding it took a few trips. Surprising, because with all the hype I'd seen, I fully expected it to be lurking everywhere. At the bulk goods store, it was there, and about 1/3 the price of what I had seen around town. Sure, it's a monster bottle, but I figured if I didn't like it, I still would have spent less than if I had gotten something smaller.
My first, and very pleasant surprise, was the fragrance. It's light, it's unobtrusive, and blends well with perfumes and body lotion. (I've had people compliment me on my "perfume" when all I have done is wash my hair!) The second surprise was that it was not a thick and viscous lotion. Coming out of the bottle, it resembles watered down skim milk. That kind of threw me, because I am used to conditioners having a real density. The third surprise came after I applied it. It absorbed very quickly, and did not leave a heavy feel to my hair. I have spilled it on shirts, towels, the floor, and it cleans up easily. In fact, generally the only sign of the conditioner is the light scent, and hair I can do things with.
Now, you may be saying to yourself that this is not big deal. I say, now that my hair is mid back in length, it is a huge deal. I can brush it without having in rebound into knots, I can braid without tangles, and my hair doesn't have the texture of a finely shredded Brillo pad. These are all things I want. I also found out today that even if someone has forgotten to condition their hair, the Infusium can be applied to dry hair with the same results. (In this case, a friend of mine who is wheelchair bound needed the conditioning. It is so much easier to apply this, then to try to get her to the sink and wash her hair.)
So, for once, the advertising did not lead me astray. If you live in a dry climate, or if you have friends or family that need help with their hair, this is the magic potion for you.
